LT1 Cam Swap
In a 95 Z28 is it possible to do a cam swapp without pulling the engine. Also if you put a new cam in is there any thing else that must be done?

you can do the cam swap with the engine in the car. you jsut have to move a lot of stuff out of the way.
there aren't a lot of things you absolutely must do other than fresh gaskets and a new tune. i am sure some of the guys who have been through it before with an LT1 can explain some of th ethings that are a good idea to do while you are in there though.

As far as I know if you pull the fans, radiator and A/C condensor, that is all the stuff that has to come off the car to do it. Obviously the accessories, intake manifold, valve covers, timing cover etc has to come off as well.

Yes it can be done. Depending on what kinda cam u go with will determine what u need to do. I would go with new set of pushrods at least, instead of the pressed ball ones. Get a tune, new gaskets etc.. depending on how many miles are on ur car it may be the optimal time to change out the opti and water pump, throw a new timing chain in as well.

Cam install on an LT1 is pricey because nothing is cheap and allot of the stock parts need to be replaced, if it has higher milage than there are more parts you'll want to replace.
You can do it in the car, you need to remove everything from the front of the engine to the radiator. You can leave the AC condensor in, just loosen the tank and VERY CAREFULLY rotate the conden. out of the way. You will also have to replace the stock valve springs as the stockers will bind. You will need all the gaskets for the front end and intake. You need to drop the oil pan to get the timing cover off, so you need to be careful not to rip the pan gasket.
If you plan to spin the engine about 6K or if you have over 75K ( or if you run the car hard ) then I would suggest replacing the timing chain with an upgraded unit. And again, higher miles you might want to replace the water pump and opti.

Well, you can do it this way as well. This was cam, heads and torque convertor and polly motor mounts install so we just dropped the K-member

Of course having access to a lift makes life much easier.
Ron did a nice job of keeping photos of all the work, but he had to leave the day of the reinstall so no pics of that.
