AFAIK we're about the strictest with the gun laws, and have the highest rate/amount of gun violence. Could be wrong, but we're at least up there with both. Coincidence?

Look at New Orleans, what saved a lot of those people's posessions from looters were guns. Even right here in Paterson when we had all that rain, it was the same thing.

EDIT: it's not so much using the gun, its the fact that when people know you have one, they know not to break into your house or simply mess with you. If some guy is trying to break into your house and you stand there with a gun pointed at his head, he will most likely try to run away

you bring up an interesting point, but i cannot go into too much detail about it. google up "St. Augustine's Just War Doctrine" and read about it. it basically sanctions war on the basis of utilitarianism, or in other words, the most good for the most people (this may apply to the war in Iraq). or a pre-emptive war, which is a war that prevents another war (for example, the war in Afghanistan which was used to defeat Al-Qaida to prevent terrorist attacks). its all a matter of intent, what are your goals in taking another persons life? is it for your own personal benefit? or is it to protect those who cannot protect themselves? In the just war doctrine, St. Augustine leaves this up to the soldier to decide btw...

I'm sorry, and I know I'm probably going to get flamed for this BUT, I just can't live my life by what an out-dated story book says. I think the self sacrifice soldiers make should be regarded higher than what they do to protect the rest of us...

Thanks man, i've served 5 years possibly going to do another 15. I understand those who like firearms. Doesn't mean because you have the biggest rifle or the best pistol makes you have a huge penis. Having firearms is a peace of mind. protection of yourself and your family. What i don't agree with is these 16-18 year old"thugs" carrying thinking they are going to be the next 50 cent. But then again if everyone carried it wouldn't be an issue.

but how come no one tries to solve the issue of having "thugs" carry firearms? is it that impossible to solve that efforts are worthless? i'm not the kind of guy that can accept that conclusion easily. i like to go down swinging...

and bubba- you say the Bible is outdated? but if the Bible was written yesterday, you would be crying that it had no historical credibility. its a two-way street.

but i'm done preaching theology to a group of people who are so set on their ways that they are unwilling to hear an opposing view. they have a word for it: "ignorance." but if you are interested in hearing the good news, feel free to PM me, otherwise, i'm giving up on preaching. and i'm sorry if i came off like i'm trying to push my religion upon you guys, even though thats exactly what i was doing.

Did you mean it wouldn't stop gang violence, but innocent bystanders would be more prepared to protect themselves?

The Bible is nothing more than a book people wrote, it is no different from say the lord of the rings.

And the main point of a religion is to control people.

Discuss.

QFT!
They just reported on the 7am Fox News that one of the terrorists was using equipment at the Mt Laurel Circuit City to dub a Al-kaida training vid and an employee tipped off the cops.

lets start here: do you believe there was a person named Jesus of Nazareth that roamed the earth at the start of the 1st century?

not sure if I'm included in this but I was willing to hear your views, in fact I asked for clarification when you mentioned you would never kill another human. I believe in God and the bible and everything, I just don't agree with letting someone take my life without fighting back.

YES...BUT he was not the son of god but a carpenter named joe...Mary and Joe lie because in they're time a couple would be STONED to death for having premarital relations...I can keep on going but I doubt you want to loose this arguement.
