Which muffler?

Got a choice of Flowmaster, Spintech or Magnaflow. Had twin flowmaster 40 series on the vette with the same motor and loved it, but i've never dealt with crossflow mufflers. Will follow LO5 350 w/edlebrock alum heads, Comp Cams Extreme Energy 274 cam, edlebrock shorties and twin cat y-pipe, 3" all the way back. Want to stay with dual tips so crossflow design is a must. Mufflex will install. What do you guys think?

-anyone have sound clips they'd like to share?

thx guys.

on my Z28 i have a 350 with the factory dual cats, into a custom y-pipe into a 3in pipe into a flowmaster muffler with a single outlet. its plenty loud for my daily driver and has a nice low rumble

Magnaflow. Flowmaster mufflers are not known for being great performance-wise, and their crossflow ones are the worst of their performers (IIRC).

The results in HP order:
1.Flowtech Warlock (open) 374.2 hp/ 333.1 tq
2.Bassani Real Street 373.7 hp/ 333.8 tq
3.Hooker Maxflow 373.5 hp/ 333 tq
4.Borla XS 373.3 hp/ 332.6 tq
5.Magnaflow 372.8 / 332.5 tq
6.MAC 372.3 hp / 331.5 tq
7.Flowtech Afterburner 372.3 hp/ 330.1 tq
8.Hooker Aerochamber 372.1 hp/ 330.4 tq
9.Bassani 372 hp/ 333.5 tq
10.Spintech 371.6 hp/ 332.2 tq
11.Edelbrock Performer RPM 370.9 hp / 331.3 tq
12.Borla XR1 370 hp/ 334 tq
13.Flowtech Terminator 369.5 hp / 331.3 tq
14.Dynomax Ultra Flo 369.4 / 333.2 tq

Magnaflow seems to be the favorite, does anyone have anything against Spintech? I really liked the exhaust note from the few clips i could find online. Can't argue with the HP numbers though...(thx billy)

His stock cat back is 2 1/4 crimp bent......3rd gen 2.8L = not good for a healthy 350 to breath through.....

I couldn't bear to put a stock catback on this car. I ended up cutting off a fairly new stock 2.8L system when i started the conversion. But hey nasty, if ya need a back up muffler or cat, i got a pretty news one sittin in a scrap heap right now bro. (didn't cut them, lol)

It's not that insane, but he figured he'd get it done once now and be good. It's a 350 with Performer RPM heads and the same cam I have (.490/.490 230/236 110 LSA ground +4 degrees).

unless he plans on really stepping up his game, that sounds like too much exhaust to me. but, what do I know?

It's not that mean right now, but i'm not done with it yet. It is probably a bit more than i need now, but justin's right; wanted to get it done once, and properly. Now, no matter what i do to the motor i'll never have to mess with the exhaust system again.

I'm loving it. I used to be an exclusively flowmaster guy, but Spintech's exhaust note converted me.

yeah, no ****. Those edlebrocks u sold me were so rusty that mufflex said they couldn't take the air tubes off cuz their welder would've punched holes instead of closing them. That of course means my centerbolt looms dont fit, which means my sparkplugs wires dont fit. I have a plan for them tomorrow, but for the moment....YOU BASTURD!!! lol.

Hey, I never made any promises.....you got them dirt cheap, and they are way better than the POS setup you had on the 'vette.

bah.....doesn't happen often but when ur right, ur right. i'm gonna make'em work tomorrow anyway. it'll be ugly, but i think it'll work. dremel the tubes off leaving about a 1/4 of the tube, sand off the rust inside and out and plug the small holes with similiar sized bolts and exhaust system crack sealer. <--found some real good stuff that is tough as hell. figure that'll hold till i can afford LT's, shouldn't be long.
