Question on Cam work.
Do you think its is wise or possible to install a cam in an engine with 123,000 miles even though there are no current issues with the motor?

Should be in general tech I think. Anyways, I wouldn't do it without freshening motor, but the it really hinges on the size of the cam too.

Forgot about the General tech area. I know TTP does it and they clean up everything and add new gaskets. I have no current issues though I know its about time for a freshening up. Money is tight these days.

Why not, I would if the engine is fine...just save your future mod money for a rebuild or freshening up.

I was thinking about a cheater cam nothing to crazy and just work my current heads a bit just to freshen them up. That shouldnt run me to much I dont think. A full rebuild will be 5gs or better.

You could try it, but I always feel that with higher mileage youre better off doing a full rebuild before you go throwing a new cam in there and most likely will be spinning the whole rotating assembly a little faster on old bearings.

With a mild cam you *should* be fine, but just like anything else....when you start modding, things will break. It's just a matter of when.
If you can't afford a full rebuild but want some more power, you could just finish the rest of your bolts ons (FTRA if you don't have it, electric water pump, etc.), and then work on the chassis (torque arm and SFCs maybe).

I currently have a UMI torque arm, and Pan hard bar installed. I do have the UMI lower control arms as well, but havent put them on yet. Due to Auto cross regulations you can't change those. I am at 123,000 miles I know its just a matter of time right now. This year I have really been hard on the car with all the drag racing and auto cross courses I entered. And its still running as if it was new. But it seems like noone takes notice of the car unless you post some 11's numbers even if it does look good. Trying to land some sponsers this coming year. I am thinking a mild cam and playing with the idea of nitrous so i can post some real good track numbers and get noticed.
