ZR1 In Philly.....

I know there have already been a post about the philly car show but all i have to say besides the ZR1 being sexy. Did anyone notice how huge the Carbon fiber rotors are on the brakes? All i could think about is how much money it would cost to buy new ones. Carbon fiber cant be cut as easily as conventional rotors and the fact that the rotors wouldnt be able to fit most brake lathes.

I'd love to have that problem. Worrying about how much it's going to cost for a brake job on MY ZR1. Oh to have worries like that.

Methinks it may just be a flat replacement. If you are "straight ballin" enough to get a ZR1 it is probably a non-issue.

Yea i def agreee if you can afford a Zr1 it most likley isnt an issue but carbon fiber rotors are really expensive so i brake job will cost more then a couple grand.

They're carbon ceramic, not carbon fiber

I remember years back when Audi was racing at Le Mans they talked about how much their carbon cermaic rotors and pads cost all the way around... somewhere around 12,000 they said!!! the price might of come down to mayeb 10K today but still, for brakes? damn.

Unless you trash one in a wreck or something, GM said they expect the rotors on the car to last the life of the vehicle (although I've read in several different places that they should be good for approximately 150k miles).

what justin said is correct...

now, i can only speak off of what i know...

the mercedes-benz SLR has carbon ceramic rotors very similar to the zr1 (26,000 rotors for the fronts, i think 24,000 for the back, 2,000 for the pads)...now, these things can be lit on fire from the heat generated during braking, just watch top-gear. they are expected to be "lifetime" rotors unless during service the tech sees that there is a substantial "chunk" missing. if you inspect the rotors after a little bit of time of useage, you would see the millions of cracks in them, that appear to be stress cracks, but are totally normal.

That's their point, most people won't drive them enough to ever have to replace the brakes
