Paint prep Q's

Ok so got a few quotes today for paint and they are within my price range but in order to save myself some coin the general message I got was the more work i do before i drop it off for paint the better the price. Im not talking about the actual paint prep but the removal and instillation of parts so the shop isn’t spending time taking these things off because time is money. I made a quick list but want some input from our members

Things I have and would put on:
-Drivers side door
-rear bumper cover

Things that would come off:
-Spoiler
-Taillights
-rearview mirrors
-front and rear side markers
-antenna
-front grill
-plates
-front emblem

Also since im gona put my bumper cover on should i just take off my ground kit too? Im gona have that sprayed with a flex agent in the paint so there are prob gona have to take that off anyway.

The shop is about 5-10 min from my house so i think ill be able to get it there without any trouble from the popo. Ill have at least one friend drive with me in his car in front of me; someone behind me would be nice too.

So what do you think? Anything else I can do before I get the final firm quote to help me out?

If you are going to have them spray a flex agent onto the GFX, you should have them do the front and rear bumpers too. It will help them hold up much better.

What you should really do is decide which shop you are going to take it to, and then ask these questions to them. I'm sure many of us will have good advice for you, but the shop can tell you exactly what will and won't help them the most.

FYI flex agent is pretty much only useful during the application process and evaporates out soon after the paint has cured from what I know....but Justin is right they should still put it into the mix for the front and rear bumpers.

Take off anything you don't want overspray on and anything they would have to mask off.

Also to really save yourself some money you can probably sand the car out as well....use 400 or 500 grit paper wet.......very wet and watch you don't get anything between the paper and surface that will leave a deeper scratch.

i have decided on the place and have talked to them and basically he said anything u think or that can come off to avoid overspray or tape off. So that the list I came up with and was just seeing if anyoen could think of anything else.

HardcoreZ28 - that sounds like a scary thing to do and i would want to do more harm than good so i think ill let them do that for me.

All a matter of what you're comfortable with. If you don't want to risk it then by all means don't....could save you a headache down the road. Be sure to show us some pics when it's done.

oh pics will be coming within 2 weeks. Im giving him the car monday morning and he said 4 days to a week to complete.
