Inspections.....:-x
Ok 1st of all I'm military and like a fool I started doing things to my car and never realized anything was wrong with it. I mean tinted windows? Wtf thats the worst law I've ever heard of.
Anyway I do have tinted windows, which I'll remove.... no problem.
I also have LTheaders, and I'm going get the cats installed at the end of the month. Now my inspection isn't until Oct time frame. I'm starting now to not get hammered when I go. I've a few searches on these boards and see all the horror stories concerning inspections. Anything else you guys would suggest that I might be over looking?
What makes things worse is I planning on moving back to Florida next summer. So all this will be for nothing. I'm also looking for a shop that someone has dealt with and has good reviews for them. Please PM me any information or advice.
Thanks in advance

as long as you visually have cats, and have no codes, you should be fine

Heh...I wouldn't have registered the car here in the first place if you are from Florida.
But what Mike said will pretty much hold true. As long as they see cats when they stick the mirror under the car and you aren't throwing any codes, all should be just fine (unless you exhaust is obnoxiously loud - then you may or may not have issues with sound).

Well, the car doesn't have cats atm. Thats why I'm putting new ones on. When I bought the car I also didn't know they were gutted cats too. And with the Borla is was very very loud. Anyway I'm more concerned with tinted winows and what not.
When I bought the car here I was given the option to keep Florida plates, the guy said it would be easier to get NJ plates. Not knowing the rules here I said ok. I just can't beleive this state is like this.
Anyway its my windows I'm concerned with

If you have gutted cats on the car now, you will pass the visual inspection for cats. As long as your car isn't throwing any codes (been tuned to remove that code) you shouldn't have a problem as far as they are concerned.

if your moving back to flordia at the end of the summer, you might as well just go fail....ride around all summer with a failed sticker on the car then when you go home get it tagged and inspected in flordia.
it will be MUCH cheaper than temporarily pulling parts and tint off your car

i may be wrong, but florida does not have an inspection program. a friend of mine from florida has a neighbor with a suburban and it has no glass on the it...not even a windshield. crazy floridians.
oh and i would just ride a fail sticker.

even better then. i dont see the point of going out of your way to qualify for a 2 year sticker if you will only be here for a few more months

Too clairfy my post
The car has long tube headers, no cats at all. Its not a thing of them being gutted anymore. That was cut out when I had my long tubes installed.
As far as moving, I'm not due to trasnfer out until next summer meaning 2009
Your not suggesting I ride around for 9 months (OCT2008-July2009) with a failed sticker are you?

no, not saying drive around for a year, i thought you had said you were leaving at the end of this summer.
still might be cheaper to find a private shop that will pass it?

Yea, being military, its so much easier to keep your car registered in your home state. That way you need not abide my the equipment regulation in the state where you are stationed. However in NJ i was legal(collector status) but that has gotten complicated now, but now that i'm out of state, i will be tiniting my windows 5% again. I figure when im actually back in NJ for a weekend here or there, IF i get pulled over, ill most likely not be ticketed.
And even with insurance, i have NY rates, at my NY address and got to stay with NJ registration. Heck also the expiration dates of my registration, license and inspection have all been extended indefinately until i ETS in 2011 or get a chance to visit a nj dmv someday.

Exactly. If you are in the military, you can register your car in the state you are from, not stationed at, and the car will only have to have the standards of your home state.

Thanks for all the advice and PM's. Anyway I have a quick question... Like how do i know for sure when my inspection is due. I only say Oct because thats when I bought the car 2 yrs ago and never had it inspected. Do they send me something in the mail? Is my insureance flagged? Do they boot my car? Not to sound immature but what if I just blow it off for a few months then leave?

Nothing. It's basically an honor system for fear of a ticket.
