difference in lifters

Hey everyone i finally got started on a cam swap on my camaro. I noticed today that i kit came with solid lifter not roller lifters. Now since they came with the kit i am goin to use them but i would like to know will there be a difference in the way the motor will run. Also wat is the real difference between the two. The motor is a 305 v8 and the cam is a mild midrange cam. So if anyone can give me some info i will appreciate it.
thanks
enrico

well your going to need to get new pushrods as well, the solid flat tappets are going to be shorter. I suggest getting a pushrod measuring tool and getting comp push rods threw summit.

the lifters coming out are self adjusting and have lasted 50 / 100,000 miles with out doing anything, the set up you have now you will have to re adjust the lifters at or around every oil change to keep it in top tune, ( adds 2 hours to the simple oil job at least ) -- plus as was said the pushrods will be different and the cam valve spring pressures will have to be adjusted as well ( maybe ) but you need to check and see if it matches ( valve spring installed and open pressure ) to the cam you incorrectly bought - i would re think changing from hydraulics to solid if i were you -- in a 305 combo the gain is nothing -- jz

I may be wrong but, I think he is saying that it's a flat tappet (not necessarily "solid") rather than a roller lifter. If it's a mild cam it's more than likely a hydraulic lifter and he is not familiar with them.

Enrico-

Both "Johns" are making good points here. Just to clarify- what cam kit are you using?

I don't think I would run a flat tappet cam in a roller block, but thats just me.
