I switched to DSL 4 years ago. I've had ZERO problems, no loss of connection, or stalling... nothing. All I do is restart my modem once a month for a new connection and its smooth sailing. Comcast Cable is insanely overpriced and insanely clogged up with too many people...aka slow.

Edit: I pay $29.99 a month with Verizon....the speed is under what Comcast advertises...but the only time Comcast is fast is at like 1am-7am...when no ones on it.

Where are you people all day long? All day long I deal with jerks that tell me 29.99 Verizon DSL/34.99-39.99 FiOS is too expensive and it sucks but their 45-55$ comcast/optimum cable service is 800x better and cheaper. They get mad at me when I ask how 50$ is cheaper than 29.99 but hey whatever, they wanna be stupid I'm calling them on it.

If it works sometimes and not others it might just be a bad connection with the cable. Bad fittings kill the upstream and downstream signals like a mother. If you want I can bring my happy comcast truck driving *** to ya house and take a look.

Yeah, could be the lines in the house. We had this problem with Cablevision last year...we had made all the cables and connections ourselves and had a crappy splitter apparently. It would drop every 10 minutes, give or take...then 1 day it'd last for the entire day, and the next, back to the in and out. The guy came in, changed all the connections and the splitter (for free), and we've had no problems since.

UM, I have comcast and only pay $33 a month for internet. Not sure who is paying $60 but they are getting screwed. As for the connection, minus the huge power outage I haven't had a problem with comcast going out on my and my speed is pretty damn good all day long.

Since I traded in my original modem and got a new model I've had 0 problems. They also had to replace some lines going from the pole down the side of my house cause they had water in them. But that was a random occurance.

It all depends on your area. DSL gets slower the further from the central office you are but you have a set speed of what ever you get when you first plug in while comcast doesnt have distance effects but you share an amount of speed with a few block radius.

Go to your neighbors and tell them your petitioning comcast. Then be the only one to keep it, then it will kick ass.

FiOS FTW! I just got it back after having to deal with Comcast internet in my apartment for the last year. Slow, and down at least once a week. Can't blame it on lines either - the apartment complex is only a few years old. Comcast internet is just teh suck.

Comcast = 16mb down / 2mb up for ~67.99 / month

<or>

FiOS = 20mb down / 5mbup for ~44.99 / month

Considering Comcast's regular 6mb service doesn't usually come close to hitting that number, I'm sure their 16mb service doesn't either. I haven't ever seen my FiOS below 15mb down, and it's usually 17-19.

Most costumers I install internet for get 5mb with the 6mb package and 12 with the 16mb, also depends on the computer rig you are using. An old azz dinosaur wont be able to handle even 2.5mb connection speeds so the speed tests wont be accurate!
Biggest thing with broadband internet from cable companies are the lines running to them. Old rg-59(smaller old school line) wont carry enough signal over a long distance, pus they get corroded after a few years. New rg-6 lines can carry excellent signal are made better to last longer and if the fitting are properally installed you wont have any problems. Another thing to note are splitters that can go bad, the drop (incoming line from the pole or underground line from the cable box outside to your house) going bad over the years or getting water in it.
Iv installed comcast cable in million dollar homes with the sickest computers around and I was shocked at how fast their internet speed was with just the 6mb connection.
It all comes down to workmanship.
Fios rewires your whole house when they install they setup, almost every cable line is rewired along with the telephone system. No wonder their are no problems, but thats the first install of their service in your home guys, cable has been reconnecting service to homes with people moving in and out and theyre not going to pay a ridiculous amount of money to the cable company to rewire everything if they dont have to thus leaving old lines in homes causing bad problems.[end/rant}

Eh....FiOS is still faster for less money, and in my several years of experience with both, it's far more reliable. Not saying this to put you down at all man - just saying that regardless of what Comcast wants to say about it's "larger fiber optic network", Verizon is still offering a better (faster and more reliable) internet service for less money.

Comcast's deal is that they've had a fiber optic network but FiOS is fiber optic to your door
which is the main difference

And it's only 39.99 a month. I doubt HIGHLY anyone would notice a difference between what I get and what your mighty FIOS gets. I think some people are just in Crappy areas.

Comcast quoted me $67.99 / month for their premium 16/2 internet service, and I have it in writing....
