				 i Love Stealerships!

so the girl brought her 04 grand cherokee in to jeep17 where she bought it last year cuz the power lock switch on the driver door didnt work and was shorting out the windows, mirrors and locks. only reason it went to a dealer is cuz its got an extended warranty plus the standard 8/80k iirc...sooo they say they found a cut or stripped wire that was causing the short and repaired it
also got an oil change... now the fun!
they wanted $90 for new hood struts cuz the hood obviously wont stay open... shes like uhh no thanks!
they wanted $45 to tighten LOOSE BATTERY CABLES!!!!! LOL
now my girl is barely 5ft tall and i guess they figured itd be a push over.. but shes learned a thing or two from me and loves to tear into these guys!
shes like so u want $45 to tigthen bolts that hold the cables on the battery...umm no. so the guys like well its unsafe, u cant drive it like it is blahblahblah. shes like well im not paying $45 for that thats BS. i personally would have thought that when repairing a wire they would have had to disconnect the battery anyway??? lol
needless to say ill inspecting there work, prob repaired that wire with electrical tape!

Dealerships aren't the only one. Places like Jiffy Lube and such like to fabricate trouble spots on your car.

if you want to check out their work, pull back the little rubber boot that goes from the body to the door in the door jamb. thats where the wires usually break.

that happens industry wide....not just Dealerships. i can tell you first hand that probably the most honest place your gonna find is a Dealership. they have way too much invested in customer service to get caught up in scams. they are workin for a living just like you and get paid for what they do...so ya cant really blame them for not doin anything for free. 95% of the time when we do something for free, it ends up coming back and biting us in the ass. getting your car fixed isnt any differance than having a plumber/landscaper/electrician coming to your house and giving you an estimate, its just that we tend to know more about cars than plumbing so when you get that $1000 estimate to replace your toilet, you just agree with it and go with the flow. even though you could probably do it yourself for about $600.

As I've mentioned in other threads, the dealer my Hyundai goes to for everything but oil changes and simple repairs is very honest. Pretty reasonably priced, and will not add ******** charges to anything. It's further away than the hyundai dealer that's about a mile from my house (Liberty is like 25 miles from my house), but I trust them. As does James, who HATES dealers usually since he has to deal with them pretty much daily for work.

If want Jeep, Dodge, or Chrysler dealership help, you can see me, I won't rob ya blind. I work third shift at Greenfield Dodge in Lawrenceville, Mon to Thurs.

Also, any shop you go to for repairs will give you a "coutesy inspection" or "safety inspection" so they can up sell you services. Unfortunately it's how the business works, but also you can get a heads up on something wrong you may not have known about until something came apart. And the prices they gave you sounds right for dealerships, depending on area some are getting over one hundred dollars an hour.

Well put!!! As a former Dealership tech and Forman you would be shocked to know what went on. It is hard to deal with when your are honest. If it was not for the education I would have never done it. Best advice is if it seems wrong it probably is. Always ask for your old parts and to see what your being told is bad if you are waiting.

always ask for the old part... even if it's just to inspect it. most dealerships have the 'safety inspection' that they do even if you have just the oil changed. it's to let you know that something might become a problem. you can always say 'no' when they suggest something be changed or replaced with new. i put an additional 20k miles on the serpentine belt before i got it changed. but, hey, thanks for letting me know it was wearing out...

i have heard many MANY times where people went in for a little bit of service and came out with a huge bill that was performed because of any number of bs reasons. i know that inspecting a car and mentioning what you think needs attention is how the business works, but i hear alot that dealerships will just do the work without confirming it with the customer.

My buddy in Va used to work in a Firestone joint.....they used to regularly blow out your dust boots when lubing the chassis so they'd get come backs for 'bad tie rods' and 'bad ball joints'......
Sucks that dealerships charge so much for labor now....
