They quoted 8-10 weeks but they came in about 4.

It's a $50 one time fee and you do it on the DMV site online. You get to see what's available before picking it and then it goes to review for someone to make sure it doesn't say something offensive.

the $50 is on top of your regular registration fee. you still have to renew your registration every year, but they don't charge the extra $50 every year - just one time when you first get them. i hope that was coherent.
