It happens that way sometimes, the binge and purge of bad injuries and deaths in the sport. NASCAR went through it years ago when two drivers were killed in unrelated accidents in the same Daytona 500 weekend.

Truth is that there is always a worse case scenario that is way worse than anything that was thought of or could be planned for.

God bless his family and friends.

Last time an F1 driver died - Ayrton Senna in 1994 at Imola. Oddly enough Roland Ratzenberger died in that same weekend at the same track. Ayrton was the Dale Earnhardt of F1 at that time.

Last time a Winston Cup( I dont call it Nextel or sprint, I was raised on Winston Cup) Driver was killed was...Dale Earnhardt.

Its wierd that those two sprots lost their most favorite drivers, and then havent had another death since. Now in minor leagues in both sports, there have been who have died, but for the top of the line series, it seems like their best and most faorite drivers had to die in order to really make signifigant changes in the saftey of their sports....

It takes that to 'rock the boat'. Adam Petty and the other young guy who dies that same year (I forget his name) was not enough (in NASCARs case)

Ona side note, my kids play a racing game on my old Sega Genesis named Ayrton Senna GP or something.
