Good shop needed who has holley carb knowledge

I rebuilt my carb and got the car running better finally able to drive it and get it picking up speed not just bogging and sputtering.
It stumbles around 1.5k-2.5k rpms tho, im thinking a slightly bigger accellerator pump shooter, but im not sure.
I do know total timing and the rocker arms/valves need to be adjusted, so I need a good shop that is able to this for me in the MIDDLESEX area!
Thanks guys.

Found an awsome guy to help me out. He has a second gen camaro with a 468 in it thing is SICK. Hes the new auto teacher at my old high school.
(I went their my freshman year 4/5 years ago the year after I left he came so hes not new but new to me)

He set the rocker arms and timing got it running pretty damn good actually!
I was able to get the car sideways in the parking lot !
It still needs more tuning and it was running RICH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But it brought a smile to my face until I hit it with a WOT run up the street, the secondaries started to pour gas into the carb and I stalled out.
After you turn the car off the secondaries keep pushing gas into the carb flooding the carb and when its running you have to hold the throttle off idle or it dies form over flooding in the secondaries.
What in the world could that be?

85 Camaro prolly weighs 250-400 lbs less than a 4th gen. I think he is doing fine with what he has if he likes drag racing.

Did you rebuild the carb? Sounds like a bad float, needle valve, or something like that.

dirty needle/seat can hold the pump open... i'd go back through the carburetor and make sure you clean everything with cleaning solution before reassembling. carbs are a no-nonsense piece of equipment. when they are right, they are right. if you forget something, or don't do something while they are apart (like blowing air throughout to make sure that the little pieces don't get stuck in a place like the needle) then they are a mother to get right. it usually requires disassembly, air and cleaning solution to make them right again.

as to the too rich problem, what size jets are you using? did you at least set the idle? just curious...

Float level too high in the secondary bowl.

Float level was a little high, their was stuff clogging the needle I cleaned that out put a inline fuel filter on and its still doing the same thing, oh and i found out the secondary shaft in the baseplate is slightly bent or something causing it to leak from their a bit.

The carb stopped over flowing untill I gave it a WOT pull and it straight blew gas up from the overflow again.

I removed the carb im going to go through it all again clean it hit it with compressed air make sure EVERYTHING is perfect.

Either way im selling this carb if I cant find someone to fix it right.

How did he set up the valves? The correct way with a dial indicator or just when they stopped clacking?

We went through each cyl by turning the motor by hand and he adjusted each rocker arm one at a time. Apperently I installed them all with lots of play at first, they were mad loose. So no, no dial indicator was used tho.

Did I mention only one of my idle mixture screws had effect on the motor running?

This sounds like a clogged bowl vent. Either you have junk blocking an internal passage...or the metering block gaskets in your kit were the wrong ones for your carb.

There are several different gasket configurations available, holes in different places, and they all fit and look basically OK at a glance.

However, if you use the wrong one for your carb it will block off certain passages causing odd problems including the one you're describing.

I have never heard of a SBC requiring a dial indicator to adjust rockers/valves. Any chance you could post up any information related to that? I’d be really interested in learning a new method.

I found the coolest little old school hotrod shop in south river. Ask Frank First. The owner has had some SICK cars but doesnt do **** with the business anymore but the guy who basically runs the show ROCKS!
Hes rebuilding the carb with my parts removing the choke cleaning the passages and all and said I can pick it up in one day he promises itll run right for 50 bucks, and he's throwing in a quick change secondary spring kit!

Its too bad the shop has never been heard of, isnt in the best location (right off a main road in south river but its not visible),and the owner basically doesnt care any more because this place could be and to me still is awsome.
A true old school american hot rodder style speed shop!

Glad you found a place! The good shops can be hard to find. Most don't advertise at all.

Yea this place has NO advertising. I hope when the owners lease is up and he gives the shop up that the guy in charge will take it over like he is contemplating, maybe he can bring new life to the shop cuz its really an awsome place.

Its not required... but it is better. If you have shaft mount, theres no real adjustment.

Yeah, but how do you do it? I don't understand. I've never seen SBC rockers adjusted with a dial indicator.

Shaft mount? We're talking about some kid's SBC powered IROC not a big $$ race car.

I have set valves a thousand times and seen it done more times than I can count and I have no idea what you would use a dial indicator for. Please explain this one.

He's still trying to figure out where to get TTY bolts for a gen-1 SBC, might take a while...
