TranzMaro LT1 Conversion
Iight yall... It's been a while since i've posted.. But i'm finally back wit a new wack project...
1988 Pontiac Trans Am GTA...
1986 Chevy Camaro Nose/Ground Effects...
1995 Chevy Camaro Z/28 Rear
I'll post Pics of that later... I need to know if i can unbolt the subframe wit my stock LB9 and 700r4 and swap in the subframe from the 1995 Camaro Z/28 wit the LT1 and 4L60... Before tearing down the car and getting lost half way I figured to ask the pros...
Other then the Struts being different bolt patterns and fuel and p/s lines, will the motor sit back too far on the 95 subframe?
Wiring: I have the complete harness from the 95 Z/28... Will i have a problem wit the column? Dash? I was thinkin of converting the interior to the 95 style anyway...
Any input will be nice.

It is a junk intake and the cost/effort to modify it isn't worth the small performance gains.

What engine is in the car now and what do you consider "keeping up"?
If you have TPI, there are a lot of combos that can work nicely, a mild LT1 can put 300 to the wheels no problem, an LS1 swap would put you with in easy reach of 350 to the wheels and all can provide good driveability and mileage.
It is really just a matter of what you want to spend and what you want the end result to be.

Eh if your gonna swap generations I say go for the LS. As said you cant beat the power/performance and the driveability.

An LT1 swap is a direct bolt in for a SBC though, where as an LSx isn't. With an LSx you'll need now motor mounts, new headers, new front springs (LSx is significantly lighter), new transmission (or an adapter plate for your old one), etc.
On a budget, stick with a Gen I or Gen II motor.

Say what? Usually you go with a SBC intake converted for reverse flow heads... But the stock LT1 intake, ported, will support your engine way past the power goals your looking for. Just don't buy the LT4 intake thinking it will gain you anything.

I'm lookin for about 350hp... i got the stock LB9 305 in there... its been a really fun ride but needs more power... 350 heads wit a mild cam and the lt1 manifold sounds like some decent power

You can prob make a little above 350 if you get the hotcam kit. But if you have the money, get a better setup.

In my humble opinion-
Screw the LT1/LS1 ideas. You can get that HP from a Gen 1, no problem. Ditch the 305 and swap in Gen 1 350 (you can get them pretty cheap these days) and with a cam, intake, and some exhaust work you should be able to get there.
I would not mod a 305 for power. Most of the parts, while they would swap to a 350 or better would not be optimal in that application, and the 305 was always a bitch motor when it left the factory.
