305 Upgrade?

First off im buying a 4 bolt 350 block and im making a 383 project out of it. But in the meantime i really want to upgrade my tired old LG4 and i just need suggestions to grow some confidence seeing that this is all i have to drive.

I have almost 180 k on this but it runs great...now i do get blue smoke on start up only so im gonna replace my valve seals but then i figured why not just swap out the heads.

So im looking for a good, somewhat mild and decent priced carb, head and intake manifold combo to throw on this. Something im gonna really feel but not blow up the drive line or the bottom end. Direct bolt in kinda deal.

thanks

Honestly, Harry, I would'nt do anything and waste your time on the 305... Just dump everything into the 383.

Look for a set of aluminum L98 heads off of a late 80s TPI vette. You should be able to find a stock set for a few hundred dollars and they will give you a pretty nice gain over your stock heads (as well as shave some weight off the nose of the car).

I just sold a set of those heads with some work done to them along with a Performer intake to another member here who was looking to spruce up his 305 as well.

Don't bother with heads on a 305.

As for an intake and carb- Edelbrock Performer and a Holley 600 Vacuum Secondary.

If you are talking about a rear main seal i would go with the 1 piece in hopes that it's a roller block

Sorry about that, ya im talking about the rear main seal...im leaning more towards the 1 piece because ive seen less leaking issues on that style.
