Sonic Drive in Rt 22 Lebanon
http://www.nj.com/hunterdon/index.ss..._for_rt_2.html
Once it's done it should be a good meet spot. That part of 22 needs more people going through it.

Word on the street now is that the people living in Lebanon are fighting it since they don't want to commercialize their area...

That part of 22 has been dead and dying for a while. They need this more than they think. I'll post up if I get any more info.

It is a nice area and I can understand their concerns... but I'd rather see a Sonic there

It is nice but there really isn't much on that part of 22.
Not to mention that they want to keep it all "rural Mayberry" but there's a huge Harley dealership there.

I'm in. Something in the spring would be cool, so we can pull out our cars from their winter rest?

Awesome! Where exactly will this be going? That means I will be pretty close to both Sonics, depending on the time of year

I remember a few years ago, I saw a Sonic commercial on TV and decided to see if there was one close by. The nearest one was like 250 miles away. Now they're popping up all over, all we need now is a few Waffle House franchises to open in NJ so I don't have to drive to PA when I get the craving

Yeah, ubg was always disappointed when he saw that all the Sonic's were a gadzillion miles away. He really hopes that one in Lebanon is a go-go-go!

I am all for any Sonics being built near me, yet I can understand how Lebanon could be against the idea. That part of Rt 22 is the last bastion of Rt 22 that has yet to succumb to being built up. However, I couldn't see much harm in building a Sonics there. I just wouldn't want to see anything else getting built there. But it is a slippery slope. If they allow a Sonics there, then other franchises may want in. Frankly, I agree that a Sonics would be good for that area. I know of many muscle car owners that are from the Lebanon, Branchburg, Bedminister, Bridgewater, areas. Plus the cruise night in Somerville is only 2-3 towns away, and I could picture many classic car owners stopping there.
I know that I would be there most every night for their drinks. However, it would be a real toughy chosing Polar Cub or Sonics. On the other hand, I question if a Sonics could survive in that area as is. Most places on that part of Rt 22 don't get much of a crowd and it is usually dead on Winter weekends when I drive out that way to go to a friend's house.
I'd be there every day though, with or without my camaro. 44 oz Strawberry Slush with tons of sweet strawberries at the bottom.

Yeah, that's the thing. So few people are drawn through that area that some of the local businesses suffer. If there was a Sonic pulling people in, maybe they'd stop at some of the other stuff in the area.
