i own several firearms. and i goto the range frequently. it is alot of fun. to own a firearm in nj. you must goto your local police department and apply. its like 60.00 i think. do not lie about anything. your app goes through state and federal checks before it gets reviewed by local police. you will be finger printed as well. the whole process varies. i waited 10 weeks because the local police smudged my print. the state police sent it back. you will need to do this to buy a firearm. while living in nj. it is a pain in the ass. and they will run your info everytime you purchase.

all you need to do is to go apply at a local police station for your FID card and wait to get that back. they will fingerprint you and background checks and all. once you get that bad boy you can buy and rifle/shotgun from a gun shop and all they have to do is call NICS (its usually a $15 fee). and i dont know if your 21 or not but thats the age to buy a handgun and to get a handgun you need a permit from your local police station which can be another fun process
and as fbods4ever said, the fee for the FID (firearms id card) is like 60-80 bucks. its 78 in my town i believe (i dont know if theyre all different or what)

you might end up waiting quite a while for your permit. I had to wait 2 months and my friend waited about 4 months. NJ is not a "gun friendly" state like Florida is.

 | i shot this berreta storm carbine, smith and wesson revolver 38 special, and a glock not sure which one it was a 17 + 1.
this might be a silly question, but is hunting allowed with any of these?
do any one on the planet use a carbine or handgun to hunt??

 | the Glock you shot was probably a G17.

not sure of the hunting laws in NJ, but I dont think you can hunt with a pistol. not sure about the carbine either.

 | you cant purchase a handgun unless you are 21 or older. you have to apply for a pistol permit if you want to buy one and they are only good for 90 days (can re-up for another 90 if not used).

when you go to your local police station let them know that you would like to get a hand gun permit also if you are rdy to buy a pistol. Or if you will be ready within 2-3 months or so. That is how I did mine. I bought a cheap 20 gauge over under from dicks for skeet shootin which is a blast. Once My pistol permit came in I went out and got a Sig Sauer P-226 9mm. I love the gun, easy to clean, very accurate and reliable. I have put 500-600 rounds through on shooting trips without field cleaning half way through or anything. with no jamming. Check them out if you are lookin for a pistol, I love it.

I don't believe you can hunt with pistols and/or rifles in NJ. I'm pretty sure that shotguns and bowhunting are all that's allowed in NJ. I'll ask one of my friends who hunts and shoots later on.

			i love shooting. I've shot my friends .40 glock 23 and kel-tec sub-2000(9mm). plus an M1, beretta .40 carbine, .22, 12Ga, 7.62X54r Dragunov, M16, M4, M249, M240B, M2 .50Cal.
I have my NJ firearms ID card, applied right before basic, and they held it for me till I could pick it up 4 months later when i was back home. I didnt get a purchase permit(for handgun cause i had no plans for one yet) but yeah they are good for 90 days. I currently own a 1929 12Ga Springfeild arms shotgun and a 1898 Colt .32s revolver. The Colt needs no paperwork because it is considered an antique and not a firearm due to being before 1899 and uses obsolete ammo, .32 short. After deployment im gonna get a .50 cal sniper rifle to use for long range marksmanship.

otherwise i'll go the next step down and see what available. i loved the dragunov though, so i dunno

i cant wait just to try a .50 rifle. A few months ago i shot my M2 with a broken mount... staying on target was not an option. After like a 5 round burst, the thing would hop out the pintle... nearly impossible to hold down, thing was a riot though haha. i ended up stealing a good pintle lock from another humvee. After that, night fire with a thermal sight was sweet!

Once My pistol permit came in I went out and got a Sig Sauer P-226 9mm. I love the gun, easy to clean, very accurate and reliable. I have put 500-600 rounds through on shooting trips without field cleaning half way through or anything. with no jamming. Check them out if you are lookin for a pistol, I love it. | saw it looks cool, i'd def. like to get this one, but its too expensive

the USP is a sweet shooting gun. if it were a bit cheaper, I'd have bought that instead of the G19.

jerseys gun laws suck so much. you cant get anything fully autos and the waiting period to get a gun/rifle. theres so many bans and all for getting a rifle. but what kind of guns do you guys have? and by the way what gun ranges do you guys go to? were having a hard time finding ones to shoot some of our guns.

there is no waiting period for rifles/shotguns. once you get a firearms id card, you buy the weapon, they call trenton and in 5 minutes you're out the door. there are some really stupid regulations on AR15 style rifles though.

As far as ranges go, I have been to Rays Sport Shop (closed now) and some other place with martin, I forget the name of it, very nice place though. I dont know of too many ranges so I cant recommend one near you.

Agreed, full auto is useless unless for the ****s and giggles part. Which is awesome. And there are a few ranges around that you need a hunting liscense to use but are free otherwise.

yea i know but we have alot of guns and to have fully auto would be cool just to add to the collection. but i rather have burst on the AR-15 we have. over in township we got the cards in like less than 10 on the spot but it used to take like a few months just to get the permit. but also look at the clips. i think the limit is 15 shot right? no like 30 shot mags.
