I wonder how long the car will be there for people to climb around it! I really want to see it, sit in one, and perhaps turn her on.

Any word on the availability of the street version Al? I am usually not a fan of overly graffic'ed up cars, but that really doesn't look bad at all.
I am wondering how much longer they are gonna manage to keep the Indy 500 pace car under wraps.

Chevy Camaro Returns as Official Pace Car for 51st Daytona 500; Iconic 2010 Model Returns to the "Great American Race" After 40-Year Absence
DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Feb. 7, 2009) -- Daytona International Speedway officials announced the return of the Chevy Camaro as the Official Pace Car of the 51st running of the Daytona 500--the first Camaro to pace the field since 1969.
"Chevy has been a great partner of the Daytona 500 for more than 30 years, and the Camaro is an automotive icon,'" said Speedway President Robin Braig. "This 2010 model will set the tone for a 21st century sports car, and that's a perfect fit to lead the pack at the 'Great American Race.''
The 426-horsepower vehicle, powered by the 6.2-liter all-aluminum Chevy V-8, carries a PPG Cyber Grey paint scheme with a bold accent design befitting "The World Center of Racing." A Camaro has paced the field just twice in Dayton 500 history, in 1968 and '69, and this 2010 model is scheduled to hit showroom floors this spring.
Built on GM's new global rear-wheel drive architecture, the Camaro also will be offered in V-6-powered LS and LT models. Additional specs of the 2010 model pace car include:
* All-aluminum 6.2-liter V-8
* 426 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque
* Fully integrated strobe system, including a GM-designed custom light bar utilizing Whelen 500 series linear strobes
* 27-mpg estimated highway fuel economy
* Fuel-saving Tremec 6-speed manual transmission
* Top speed of xxx mph on the test track

My son Darren is flying down there for the Daytona 500 weekend and is hoping to get close enough for some pictures(maybe even the engine)and some Earnhardt Jr. stuff he hopes to get autographed. He already has tickets right near the start/finish line and is also going for the Fan Zone pass. Wish I was going with him. My first trip was in 1998 and was lucky to have seats right across from pit stop exit and saw Earnhardt Sr. get his 1st win. Quite a thrill, but I lost all interest in 2001 when he was killed there. THE MAN was quite a rush to watch and he is missed in this sport! I think the CAMARO PACE CAR is AWESOME . Of course if I got one it would never see rain or snow, but what a blast to drive something that wild looking. My 1989 Trans Am Turbo Pace Car was almost unstated, with just the optional decal door and windshield package. If you didn't put them on and stuck on GTA badges, what a sick sleeper that could have been. It could run low 12's @ 115 mph(with bolt-on mods) all day long and still get 28 mpg.

THAT seems pretty amazing for an engine that size. In fact, I'm having trouble believing it. Still an awesome ride!

I'm sure, it looks like they forgot to put a big wing on the back of it so you can go drifting with it.
