just stumbled across this...what do you guys think....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w98ht7j4i4Q
i really like it...sounds good...sounds heavy...the new singer holds it together well. cantrell can hold it by himself but this is pretty good.

OMG this rocks! No, it's not Layne but I like it. Still got some of that grind that AIC always had. I donate money every year to the Layne Staley Fund because I really do believe he was an awesome singer and writer, died to young by himself (body in apartment approx 3 weeks till he was found) and the worlds not the same without him but goddamn this is good stuff. Hope the rest of the CD is just as good!

Not the same. Can't hit the higher notes right. Cantrell isn't enough to save it. I'll stick with the old AIC.

I dig it if it was under another name alot of people would probably pick it up and run with it. With the exception of AC/DC every "big" band that has recorded with a new voice has failed. People are just to acustomed to the old voice.

fixed.
van halen has failed? seems to me that every time they get a new singer they produce even better stuff, even when they went back to DLR. their concerts are always sold out. that seems to mean that they are popular, regardless of the singer, and they are prosperous, meaning they have tons of cash.
why would you want it to sound like old AIC. see, this is what i don't get. even if layne was still alive, they would produce an album like this. bands progress, hopefully, so that their sound varies - otherwise they'd all produce the same thing and it would get tiring listening to the same old dinosaur farts.
i say change. change is good. change is healthy. and i like this, hope the rest of the album is more change (and not the same old dinosaur farts).

Yep its good and I'm excited for it cause I've always like AIC and have just recently started to love listening to the. DuVall isnt Staley but ya know what the same goes for The Misfits, Van Halen, Ac/Dc, and plenty of other bands after they replaced singers and they still kicked/kick ass.
I plan On going and seeing them at the Fillmore. 1100 person AIC concert, I think so
As far as it not sounding the same as it did I think you guys are just wrong. No its not the exact same but its still awesome harmony with Cantrell which is what made AIC so different sounding and great. As much as I love Lane, he was only half the unique sound of that band.
Check these out too btw. Anselmo from pantera and james hetfield on vocals for would.

I have seen AIC with Duvall singing twice in concert...he defnately held his own and paid great homage to Layne...even did a whole 20 min acoustic mini-set by candlelight ..(that was 2 years ago at Nokia in nyc)..hes not Layne, but he is a solid replacement.
I just met Jerry Cantrell in LA last month...he was hanging with Evan Seinfeld from Biohazard at the Rainbow bar where me and my buddy were drinking... real cool dude, spoke to him about the new album for a few min and got a pic with him..
best bar in hollywood by the way...you see rock gods there like every nite, and movie stars too...

Jeeze phil cant sing anymore. Back in the day he would have done an awesome job at that song. Still not bad for how messed up his voice is though. Jerry still sounds the same though haha
BTW alice in chains has one of my favorite bass sounds/tones of all time. Songs like nutshell and rotten apple...perfect bass tone!!
