can the top half of the drivers seat be swapped out fairly easily?

Do you mean the seat back vs the seat bottom? If so, yes, you can just unbolt the seat back and swap it over to another seat bottom. You could also remove your good seatcover and swap it over to another seat but that's a lot of work and only worth it if the foam is so bad you don't want to use the damaged one.
