Post Ticket Question

After receiving a couple verbal warnings and over 1 year of law evasion, I finally received my 2nd ticket ever..... for failure to inspect

I told him straight up I never had a chance to take my car to inspection (the nearest DMV inspection station is over 1 hour wait every damn day) and I apologized for not having it done sooner. He said if I wanted to fight the ticket, I can. So what I ask is, should I just pay the $130 fine and be done with it or is it possible to get the car inspected and maybe have the ticket dropped? I don't mind paying cuz it IS my fault for not inspecting it, but if there is a possibility of succeeding in contesting the ticket, I'll take that route. I have a clean record minus a "Dirty License Plate" ticket which was given to me over 5 years ago. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

IMO your better off just paying the ticket...In the long run probably will cost you more. 1 year overdue is a long time.

I have heard if you get your car inspected before the court date they will drop it if you bring in paperwork but im now sure. probably better off paying and forgetting about it

even if you don't want to fight it, do not take the car to court without inspection.... lol... you are lucky they didn't try to impound it when they ticketed you

Interesting, I didn't know that. I'd suck to get your car impounded over something like that.

Can I suggest taking your shop to a private inspection facility? It's the only way I'll go. I sat there and watched as public inspection employee let my car over heat..

Oh it's obviously the vehicle owner's fault. It'd just suck to get the car impounded for something like that....at least make it worthwhile...you know...a 3 car race on the turnpike as you blast by the cop doing 130mph or something.

^yeah might as well get jail time, hefty fines, points, and possibly lose your liscense instead of just getting an impound and ticket

You're most likely better off paying the ticket and getting the car legally inspected. Bottom line is that the car was uninspected on the date the officer pulled you over, and you might end up just wasting a day in court (And being publicly lambasted for your attempts at what could be perceived as contesting what is factual in the eyes of the law [Some judges and prosecutors take it as an insult that you'd show up hoping for the ticket to be dismissed because you got the car inspected after the fact]) and then having to pay the ticket anyway.

As far as impoundment for inspection, I've never seen that done. What I have seen is an officer impounding a vehicle for it being unsafe. For example, it failed inspection for the brakes not working and the car hasn't been repaired, or the tires are bald, etc.

most of the time, if you complete the bs paperwork before court date, show proof that the violation is corrected, they drop the ticket. so if the registration was expired and you bring in a valid registration, they drop it. i've seen plenty of times where people go to court with the violation still current (expired reg, ins, inspection) and the prosecutor tells them to go get the paperwork in order and come back and they will drop it.

long story short, get it inspected at a state or private facility(cheaper than ticket) and go to court with the vehicle inspection report and you are GOOD!

You contradicted yourself. If you've gotten a few of these, then the "never bother you again" part is painfully, obviously false.

I always go to the state inspection station around 7:30 in the morning, usually very small lines if any at all. And the guys are usually in a good mood because idiot people haven't ruined their day yet. But I will say I saw at least 5 cars pull out of line when I went a few weeks ago, so make sure all your paperwork is in order, check your rear license plate light bulb and it might be worth replacing the gas cap since you can't really test that to see if it holds pressure. Failing for the gas cap and plate light suks and forces you to have to go back.

Noah, every time I've gone to Randolph for inspection the whole thing took less than an hr, from the wait through inspection and sticker.. if you go in the middle of the month during the day its really no big deal...

They dont fail you for plate lights anymore... now its an advisory issue.

BUT, you WILL fail for an overdue oil change sticker on the windsheild.
