makes perfect sense. When you are at speed, you only have to overcome friction and air to stay constant. friction is minimal since you are on rolling tires so air and wind are your biggest obstacles. that's pretty cool though and the time and effort he put into it seems to have paid off. it seems as if he drives alot to warrant the need for better highway mileage, just look at his odometer! he really needs to convert that thing to a small, modern diesel and break 100mpg.

Why do I have a feeling a lot of Civic owners are going to try to duplicate that look with a "super cool body kit"?

That guy put a lot of work into that.

It's a super-pigeon!

Notice no side mirrors - which makes it illegal. Side mirrors make a big difference though. There was a guy on pro touring a few years ago seeing what he could get out of his cavalier or similar small car. When he changed from stock s/v mirrors to much smaller motorcycle ones he picked up like 2 mpg or someone like that. A noticeable difference.

I want to do that to my ranger, not everything, but change a few things up aero wise to help gain a few miles to my tank.

yeah but thats a ''hybrid'' motor.....he's achieving that type of mpg with a straight up gas motor offered in 92 with 300k+ miles. the fact he achieved all this with jsut doing aerodynamic mods impresses me....like said earlier, imagine that coupled with maybe a hybrid motor or something more fuel efficient and it would achieve crazy levels of mpg's

The new Peugeot 308 I think it is made 92-93mpg in testing in Australia, but the US won't allow it to be imported here With some simple mods you could easily get it to hit 100mpg.

Driving a hybrid on the highway leaves little energy recovery.

Also, none of his stuff is probably DOT approved/crash tested.

Nice to see but not something we could deal with on a large scale.

This is the best part:

"Another fringe benefit is protection from damage when encountering deer on the road, the low sloped front of the car scoops them up and over, with minimal damage to both deer and car."

and then he gives this link to demonstrate....Race Car Hits Deer

imagine what mpg he would get if he rode a bicycle...no mods required!

Seriously pretty cool though, definitely did his HW. But I agree with what Bill said.

if you look at it the body work is not so smooth. if he blends out everything and makes it smoother wouldn't he gain more?
