Watch out for potholes

Driving norh on the PIP last night around 6pm in the distance I noticed 2 cars pulled off to the side of the parkway with their hazzards on. A second later BOOM it felt like the rear end was ripped out of my truck. It seems that I hit a chunk of highway at 60mph that the plows ripped up the night before and left there for us. Luckaly no damage occured to anything else on my truck but the rim and tire. I was going to swap out the tire but it was pretty muddy, no place to support the jack, my fathers dealership was only 4 miles away so I had it towed over there and used the lift to swap out the spare. As I was sitting stranded on the PIP another car pulled up behind me with the same issue, Seems all 4 of us all had our passenger rear tire blown out. How is it that nobodys front tire was dammaged?

Damn, that sucks. I've been seeing potholes, no excuse me, craters everywhere since the storm.

yes i want to go around with my camera and send pictures in to our township. i doubt they'd do anything around it. my friend with the saleen mustang had put 4 new tires on 4 months ago and blew out his front passanger tire. it was only a 250$ tire but still. we have potholes 4ft wide and at least 1ft deep. the one road has 5 like that in a row and you can't drive over them. you have to stop and wait for the oncoming side to clear up to go around them. if you don't know the road you'll kill your car.

That's NJ for ya. They been filling the pot holes in with that soft stuff, i forget what its called, in stead of actually fixing them, and once some moisture gets into them, boom. the pothole re-emerges.

Yea i believe what they are using in some of them is called "cold patch". As stated its a softer compound and doesnt work for S***! The potholes around me on 206 are horrible

They can only do the cold patch right now until the asphalt companies start back up making the normal stuff. They shut down in the winter because you can't pave when it's too cold out. So don't expect any real repairs too soon. I've got several new chips on the SS with all this stuff on the roads getting kicked up.

haha my township already got me like 2 sets of tires and 1 rim. and $1000 in repair to my car.
because there no reason to have pothole on main street for 2 years a hole that 18 wheeler try to miss.

so one day i was going home it was raining alot so this hole was fill of water couldn't even see it, i hit it so hard that all the hood popped up so i pulled over and there was a chunk of 16in firebird rim in on the sidewalk my exhaust was tore almost off the car and 2 flat tires. and to i called the police then AAA next day went to the township and raised hell you can buy 3 brand new hemi dodge charger for a town less then 5 miles square but you can fix or fill in a 2x1.3 foot hole that 8in deep.

i wasn't the only one some lady had here whole right side ripped off the day before. lol to this day the hole still not fixed guess they love fixing everyone's car instead of a $100 patch job

Lost a tire the other night and poped a couple of the plastic pins in the bumper. I'm really tired of winter.

Damn I can't believe a pot hole did that much damage to a truck wheel. My girlfriend has a full set of blow up rims and tires from her eclipse. She keeps buying replacement wheel/tires on Mitsubishi forums. Then she goes and effs them up.

Good thread. I was driving my Hyundai late one night trying to do some food shopping at ShopRite in Bound Brook and I went over this bad pothole and it blew out my passenger's side front tire and bent the wheel a little. I called the local police number for them just to send out a cop to verify that I reported the pothole and damage was done to my car. I write the borough a letter stating I want the town to fix the damage because the pothole was never blocked off and supposedly it existed for about 4 days prior to that. I got to my local police station to drop off the paperwork and it turns out the secretary tells me the former mayor of our town went over it a day before I did and they still didn't fix it. Long story short, I send in the damage claim and receive a note back saying there was not ample time given to the town to fix the pothole and they town had no notice of it before I hit it and they wouldn't pay for my damages. They had no notice of it, yet the former mayor complained about it before I did to the town borough.

Where's the justice anymore? I didn't even ask for the town to fix the pothole, I just wanted them to set up cones or a sign to notify random drivers.

Sometimes it is not avoidable.

Ok nasty let's see you fallow me down this road that i need to take to get to school.. the road is narrow and hard to fit 2 cars at once let alone go around it. and these potholes are on both sides of this road so you need to drive down the center to avoid hitting them. and today they thought putting stones in would help but it only is all over then entire road and kicking up at cars.

find a different route or treat the potholes like speed bumps and dont tear over em at 30 mph. take it easy. if it takes you longer to get there...wake up earlier and leave earlier to allow for time. id rather adjust my schedule/route than beat up my car for no reason

i do go a differnt way to school time to time. it takes an extra 10 min when the other way is 1.8 miles from my house. i do get up way earlier due to the fact i pick up my girlfriend. and when i do go over the bumps i go maybe 3 mph over them. yes people blow the horn at me. these are on a curved road and people fly around the curve and almost crashed into me.

Yep. Some potholes are unavoidable. And speak of the devil, sure enough, the same night I replied to this post, I get a call from my brother telling me the pothole I went over last year at ShopRite is back and even bigger than ever. What are the odds?
This thing is massive, like the size of a crater. This time though, they have it sectioned off with cones and warning tape. I wonder what their excuse was last time?
And it's so big, you have to drive in the oncoming lane of traffic to get around it or just not go down the road at all, which is what I am doing.

It's reasons like this I don't want to show up to any car meets before the weather gets better and they pave the roads.
