i went on hawks website and they want 300 bucks for one door piece and like 200 just for the small piece on the end of the t-top?! And year one was expensive aswell. i told my dad how muched it cost and he thought it was absolutely crazy. is there another place thats alot cheaper cause i cant justify spending 800 bucks just on pieces of rubber.

for which car? ur 96 camaro? you may be better off finding someone selling oem weatherstripping that was taken off properly.

i have a whole box of different sections id always save from cars i junked.

You should see the price of NOS 67-69 Camaro weatherstripping! Thousands of dollars. The repro stuff doesn't fit, feel or look right either.

I was able to get the T-Top w/strips for my 87 T/A before they went discontinued. I think I only Paid $75ish per side. Had to go aftermarket for the hatch tho.

If I get a chance I'll look on the parts computer and see how much OEM stuff is.

i remember they were expensive when i was gonna get them for my turd too.. i would try to fix them some how maybe with sealant before i spend all that... it is a lot of money

I remember going to a local junkyard and running into a 88 Formula with damn near new t-top and hatch weatherstripping... the t-bar was new because it had a sticker with a date of 2001. It was like striking gold, because my 86 T/A's weatherstripping was shot and the T-bar was completely rusted. I walked out of there with all of it for $20

junkyard, there is one by me at school that is right off 78 about 20-25 minutes into PA and they have tons of camaros. I think weather stripping is like $6 or $8 no matter what type it is


and for ridiculous, a NOS shaker seal for my car is over $400 and thats about a foot of weatherstripping.

To sort-of justify the prices, think of the shape of the piece of weatherstripping and what it takes to actually cut it to the propper dimensions. Not just actual length but all the crevaces that make it more than just a piece of garage/home weatherstripping. Hundreds of makes/models that all have different weatherstripping. When you think of the logisics of reproducing all of that weatherstripping it's really crazy. I ordered a catalog from a reputable weatherstriping company (forget the name of it now) a while back and it was literally over an inch thick. So I imagine the tooling/processes just to make all of the stripping is why it costs so much.

As far as the NOS stuff, its simple economics. No the average joe won't pay thousands to get weatherstripping for his first gen camaro, but someone out there will. And once its gone its gone...so they are going to milk it for all its worth. The demand for the good stuff is so high that it all will sell.
