tell that to the front office as they count all the money they are making from tv, merch sales, and sellouts.

now, go under .500 the next couple years and tell me the money is as good.

pro-sports are a business, the FANS want championships, the teams want money.

honestly im kinda curious to see what will happen this year. i really dont think mcnabb will flourish with washington. ive said it before and ill say it again, washington ALWAYS does this...signs big name players in their later years and are always i mean ALWAYS projected to battle for the division. the basement this year will belong to the g-men with the skins sitting on third at 8-8. eagles will win 9 games this year and back themselves into the playoffs and andy reid will say i told you so. thats only if miles austin can repeat his performance of last year....if he cant then its eagles winning the division with washington and dallas battling for second.

McNabb won't instantly make Washington a playoff team. If Kolb performs then the Eagles will be right back in the mix for the NFC East.

That's a BIG IF though.

So if you dont win a superbowl you would rather have a team that doesnt have a winning record? I dont get it? Would you rather have a team like TB that won the SB in 2002 and since have not been in the running? I guess you would rather be like a team like the Redskins who won there last superbowl in what 1991?Since then what have they done? Hell I was 10 yrs old the last time the skins were in an NFC championship. I was 27yrs old the last time the Eagles were in the NFC Championship. Thats what matters to me. Being able to enjoy the playoffs and not looking back 20yrs and saying ( well at least we won a superbowl). I was to young and I bet there are certain people on this site who were not even born yet when a so called winning team like the Skins, won the Superbowl or even made it to the NFC Championship game!!

I dont think Westbrook is the best RB the eagles ever had. He is the best Rb as per Stats!! I liked Watters and the Thunder and lightning better. I do think Vincent is the best CB and maybe Eric Allen back in the 80's as well!!

Yup, I'm a Giants fan and they were never a powerhouse team like Dallas, SF, Pittsburgh, but when they played well, they got the job done winning 3 out of 4 times. NFC championships don't mean squat if you don't win the superbowl. I'd rather see a team tank into the basement rather than making the playoffs with no chance of going anywhere just to say they made the playoffs. That's how teams learn to get better. The Eagles have been on cruise control with no chance of going all the way. Heck, Tampa and New Orleans have won a superbowl, they didn't need the best stats or winning percentage to get the job done. Elway lost several times before finally winning and that's what people will remember.

And Mcnabb has lost several times just like Elway. The interview on ESPN with Brian Dawkins said it perfectly. Mcnabb finnally gets all the weapons he needs and now that they have had a year to develop they trade him away!!

The Phillies won the WS in 1980. Made it back in what 83 and then 10 yrs later in 93, Tanked for the the next 14 yrs before making it back to the playoffs! I dont know about you but there were some horrible seasons for being a Phillies fan. I know I wasnt saying " well we suck this year in 2002 but at least we won a WS back in 1980"!! Its great winning a WS but It really sucks if you dont win another or even make it back to the Championship game for 10 yrs or longer!! The Mets won it back in 1986 and made it to the WS in 2000!! Are Mets fans happy with having a sucky team because they have won a WS 24 years ago?

New Orleans had all the stats this year.. They had I believe the #1 offense and caused the most turnovers on Defense!! They also had the best record in the NFC and played the team with the best record in the AFC. So yeah NO needed to have an amazing year were they were #1 in most of the important catagories to win a Superbowl!

You can't compare baseball to the other major sports. Only 4 teams used to make the playoffs in baseball, half the teams or more make the playoffs in the other sports. I would take a rebuilding and learning year over an artificial frontrunner any year in any sport.

And they got in that position because they were a lousy team that got good draft picks and made good trades. Making the playoffs every year puts you in a position where you can't improve and the Eagles showed that. I just don't see how you can be happy with the best winning percentage and no championship. I don't usually root for my teams to come in 2nd place.

Jeff(NY Giants Jeff), you're a bit wrong...the Eagles COULD HAVE improved and the front office chose not to. They could have spent the $$$ on a big name receiver when the team was in their prime and took the easy way out by sticking with a few stiffs. It was only until they spent the money on TO they finally realized they NEEDED a big receiver. Unfortunately it blew up in their face because Owens is/was a nut job. I've said it before and I'll say it again, "IF" they had a big name receiver when McNabb was in his prime I honestly think they would have taken a few of those rings from the Pats. They had the defense, they had the running backs(even though Reid's play calling was junk). Obviously I have no proof and anything to base that statement on, just a feeling.

In a way both of you guys are right...the ultimate goal is to win it all and as a Philly fan it's torture every year(thank God for the Phillies right now). We need championships here. BUT, on the flipside, it's nice knowing our teams will be in the hunt year in and year out(aside from the Sixers but who cares about them...). The Eagles did show what consistency is and showed how to keep a nucleus together to be a contender each and ever year...unfortunately they got too conservative with their $ and weren't willing to spend that extra cash to get them over the hump.

Sure, people can blame McNabb and call him a choke artist and how horrible he is and blah blah blah...and while some of that is true he still had no weapons, he still carried this team on his shoulder every freakin' year and the idiot, know-nothing fans in this city can't/won't realize that. It's funny, people will rip on McNabb but fail to rip on Reid for his atrocious play-calling or his clock management. People will point out McNabb's faults yet give Reid a pass on his unwillingness to change his game plan on the fly. Sorry I'm just going on a rant...McNabb does deserve a lot of criticism but the entire situation doesn't rest on his shoulders, it shouldn't rest on his shoulders...but when this city gets something in their head they're out for blood no matter what.

frosty, i know simply adding mcnabb wont make them an instant playoff team. but what it will do is make up for some terrible plays that result in losing close games. ie...the ovetime game with the saints that they should have won by 20, and several other losses by less than a touchdown.
he is replacing the weakest part of the redskins roster, the defense is only going to be better, and they still have the number 4 overall pick

I am comparing winning a championship to not winning a championship!! What I am saying is I would rather have a team make it to the playoffs every year and come up short then have a team the the last time they won the whole this was 1986 and the last time they made the playoffs was 10yrs ago!! I went though that with the Phillies and is sucked!! I was 1 month old when they won the WS back in 1980 and since then have only been in the playoffs 5 times!! 5 times out of 28 years!! So for 23 yrs they were as you put it in rebuilding years and that is fine with you!! Well that wasnt fine with me!! I am not like you were instead of not rooting for teams that come in 2nd, you root for teams to come in 16th or worse because they won a championship 5 years ago or a WS 23 yrs ago!!

I see your point but their receiver core eh, Portis can't stay healthy for more than 2 games, their O line is horrendous. They'll be an 8-8 team at best IMO

I'm still waiting for the Flyers to win that "Hat trick in 76"! You need more patience grasshopper!

The only teams that are going to win multiple championships close together are the dynasties and the "buy the best player at each position" teams. That's not going to happen in Philly so you need the ups and the downs to have that one realistic chance. I just hope the Phils don't blow to pieces next year and that they can make it to the WS again this year. Who ever thought they would see the Phils in the WS 2 years in a row in their lifetime!

And up to 2001 who thought you would see the Eagles make it to 4 NFC Championships in a row? Now that we have made it to 5 NFC championships and made the playoffs 9 out of the past 11 yrs we are use to being a good team that has a chance to win every year out there. This up coming year is going to be different and if Kolb has a crappy 1st year and there is a strike for his second year then his development is going to suffer!! We will be seen as the worst team in the NFC East! That hasnt been the case since before Reid and Mcnabb!!

Santana Moss is a good reciever and Cris Cooley is probably the best TE in the NFC. They have portis, who if he gets injured has 2 great backups and with willie parker and that other guy from KC as the backups they should be pretty straight at running back!! They have the 4th pick in the draft and will probably get a stud at O line that they can build around!!

The Eagles have a ****** line also!! What will happen with a less mobil QB back there? With the way things are going with our Defense our team will have to score at least 24pts to beat a team.

Eagles right now have :
Great recievers
Great TE
Good RB's
questionable QB
Questionable O line
Questionable Defense

Redskins right now have:
Avg Recievers
Great TE
Good RB's
Great QB
Questionable O line
Good Defense

Exactly. The Skins are going to be a good team this year which is more then I have to say about the Eagles!! Hell we gave up Sheldon Brown and Gocon for a 4th round pick and a LB that had 4 tackels last year!! Stewart Bradley is coming off major knee injury, that new FS we got is coming off 2 major knee surjuries, Stacey Andrews is coming off a Major Knee injury..

Our starting LB core right now is

Moses Foku, Stewart Bradley and Akkeem Jordan!!

I was looking at Jason Cambell and he had a pretty good year last year.

Completed 64.5 pct of pass's
threw for over 3600 yards
20td 15ints
Rating of 86.5

That was his best year!! Now the skins have Mcanabb, Cambell, Groosman, todd collins, and colt brennan. They should make a deal for another Draft pick.

Definitely true. But the big problem with Owens wasn't completely that he was an ego maniac, but he called out the front office for not spending the money to get the team to win, so he feeling that he was the best receiver in the game, was having his time wasted on a team that had no intention on doing what it takes to actually win a championship. And time has shown that he was right. As well as him calling out McNabb and saying he can't function under pressure.
