here's his facebook...
http://www.facebook.com/#!/bret.bauer?ref=search&sid=1153986869.4221475259..1

he also went to Notre Dame HS in Elmira NY from 91-96

from Popular Hotrodding....

BRET BAUER
Pine City, NY
Did Not Finish
Bret and his father Jack were very anxious to get their results. The Chevy they designed and assembled had been researched from top to bottom, with the Bauer's using all of their engineering skills to develop a solid entry. Unfortunately, the engine began losing oil pressure soon after we fired it up, and after double-checking the gauges, it was determined that the pressure loss was considerable. We felt bad for them, but a post-operative teardown found the oil pump stud nut loose, and this single fastener was responsible for benching the Bauer's this year. They swear they'll be back for more, as our format truly appeals to them. To show what great sports they are, the Bauer's hung around throughout our testing to assist any other competitor who may have needed a hand with anything. Even though they weren't able to get results on their entry, we feel this selfless act says plenty about this father/son team, and we look forward to seeing them again in the future.

Well, that says alot. I'm sure his father would handle this in a more profesional level. If his son is runnign the shop, it's goign to go right into the ground. Notre Dame don't mean **** if you can't handle a simple situation.

Yeah, I saw that. Just like anything else we all have our opinions. What I don't personally like is that people are minimizing the **** up. Is it REALLY that big of a deal from an operational standpoint? Probably not(then again I'm not a machinist) but the fact is you spent the $$ on a NEW intake and they butchered it, end of discussion.

Its amazing that guy would put his name on that intake manifold. If youre not going to do it right don't do it at all. Its like noone has a sense of pride anymore

I dunno, don't wanna be taking sides, but... eh.

Part of me wants to agree with them, but then the other part is feeling that I paid X amount for this work, and this is not what I paid for....

However, I don't think the whole internet flame fest you kinda started was the right choice... IMO of course.

I think the feeling is if he wanted it to look like it was done with a Dremel, he would have done it with a Dremel. You send something to a machinst because you want something professionally done, not something just good enough. In my mind, a machinst should be like an artist; when that machinst does work for someone, their name and reputation carries with that job. There are plenty of good machinsts out there that understand this and put 100% effort into everything they do, no matter how small. And if they don't think they can do a decent job or just don't have the time to meet their own quality standards, they will refer the work to someone else. If I saw something like that sitting in a machine shop I would never get work done there.

I've been reading through this story. Its confusing to say the least.

Did 86Firebird receive any compensation or get the manifold corrected so it is usable?

I would never use any of the businesses involved with this debacle.

He'll take care of you(they do good work), hindsight is 20/20 but that's probably who should have done it to begin with...lesson learned for the future.

lloyd elliott is one of the best people to deal with. he goes out of his way to ensure all of his customers are completely satisfied as demonstrated. i have never dealt with the other two businesses.

Sometimes you get taken, and getting compensated is not only troublesome, and time consuming, but there is no guarantee that you will get the right results anyway.

Sometimes its just best to go elsewhere and pay for what you need.

This seems like one of those times. It might be the first time this has happened to you, but it will probably not be the last. The best you can do is to keep these events to a minimum as you go through life.
