How Much Do You Pay For Insurance?
well im getting my license next week and my family is with liberty mutual. they quoted me around $315 a month to add me on the policy as the primary driver of my dads monte carlo (even though ill be driving the camaro). how is that rate compared to what some of you pay? and what company do you use?

I pay 230 ish a year for Full coverage but its collector car insurance through Grundy. And the Firehawk is on liabilty only through USAA for 25.00 a month I believe.. We also have our Elauntra, Renters insurance, and Home owners insurance on that same account..

High point, and yes, I have always had it pretty cheap. The insurance company considers the Z28 not a performance car, and have either not care or never looked at my driving record.

When you compare rates you must compare coverage as well. The state minimum limits of liability are 15,000 per incident/30,000 aggregate (total). That coverage is stupid low - it doesn’t cover almost any new car you can buy today. But it is a bunch cheaper to buy than say 100,000/300,000 limits of liability. If your insurance does not cover your liability they can come after your assets, and in your case possibly your family’s assets. So you need to consult with Mom & Dad on this as well.
I pay ~$2000 annual for 100/300 liability limits on 3 vehicles, with comp & collision on two, $1000 deductibles, through NJ Manufacturers. The Z costs me ~$300 annually for 100/300 liability limits and $20,000 agreed value, $0 deduct on the car via Hagerty.
liability = what you pay for damage you cause to others - not your own car/injuries

Carrying anything less than 100/300 in this day and age is foolish IMO.
In ref to the bolded portion, there is no "possibly" about it. Guess who's insurance footed the bill for my motorcycle accident? Hint... It wasn't the 17yo's policy.

There are so many factors that go into rates....coverage amounts, area you live in, age, car, credit score, etc.
What one person pays in Morris County may be different than what someone in Salem County pays.
I've been with State Farm for like 10yrs, they've treated me very well. I'd list my rates but they're irrelevant since I'm in PA.

yup. what I don't know is how that gets determinied. vehicle onwership, place of residence, age, student status, etc., all may come into play. i'm not sure of the details. But yeah, what you do as a kid can screw your family.

$158.00 a month for Full Coverage on my T/A, and liability on the truck and jeep.
that works out to $948 for 6 months, and about $1900 a year.
$27.00 a month for my bike, so thats $324.00 a year.
So around $2224.00 a year for everything. All through Allstate.

ok here you go. full coverage (liability, fire, theft, collision) insurance on all 3 cars on the liberty mutual policy (2003 monte carlo ls, 2008 g6 gxp, 94 z28). im 17 years old with a 3.6gpa (i qualify for the good student discount). got quoted an additional $2200 a year to add me to the policy, plus the $1100 a year that i paid to add the z28 to the policy. so that totals out to ~3300 a year for full coverage. matt, did you have full coverage with the numbers from high point that you were telling me earlier?

I am pretty sure I have the bare minimum for coverage, my car would be totaled ASAP by most insurance companys if I claimed anything. So, in that aspect its not worth the extra money, also, my deductible is a grand, but again, I do not claim anything. Cheaper to fix things yourself.

why would you even carry comp & collision? After a $1000 deductible, what do you think they will pay you if you wreck it?

Right. If they value your car at $1750 - $1000 deductible = $750 payout. What is it costing you a year for the possibility of $750?

I do not run the insurance plan, I merely pay what I owe to my parents.
I just know I have the state requirement for insurance and thats it. I think. I would have to check with the insurance plan.

oh, you said you had a deductible, which means comp & collision, which is not required. There are no deductibles on liability. In any event it is still good to consider for anyone with an older car.

Yea I was thinking of my saturn, not 100% sure on what the camaro has. But when I smashed up teh saturn it was either do it yourself for ~600 or pay a 1000 deductible.
