Hey from Northern NJ
Joined sometime last year, was running a mildly built 468 big block in an 87 iroc and had nothing but problems with it.
I'm 21 in under a month from Sussex County.
Spent years browsing craigslist for a toy, never wanted to spend the money on anything. After a few years of 55+ hour work weeks I can justify buying myself something.
Saturday night a car was posted on craigslist down in south jersey and I felt it would make a good early birthday present to myself. Sunday, a buddy and I went to look at it... left a deposit, switched the title to my name and tomorrow afternoon I travel back down to the shore to pick it up.
1995 Firebird Formula, 133k (paperwork for a clutch being changed around 8 months ago and the block was punched .030"). Bone stock for the exception of the machine work and CAI/full exhaust. Gave it a very good look over, makes great compression and doesn't leak a drop of oil. The paint isn't the greatest (faded in spots) but I was able to work the guy down to $3,300. Brakes are pretty shot and it feels like it can use a tune up.
Already bought pads and rotors for it
I have a truck to finish building but in a few weeks I'll be sending the car to Maaco for a cheap re-spray and then I want to order a LT4 HC kit, regear and possibly hit it with a 100 shot. Hopefully I can send it into the upper 11's.

Welcome! Good luck with the car. It should come out real nice after you freshen it up.

...now he can smack around two f-bodies at the same time
What I can tell the car has SLP headers, some form of aftermarket exhaust which is obnoxious, and an intake.
It feels a bit sluggish down low as well.

Welcome to the club. You aren't too far away from me. I like the obnoxious exhausts though.

Nice ride. I think once the LT1 boys see this they will tell you to stay away from the LT4 HC kit unless you can get it for crazy cheap. Not much gain for the money spent.

Any good suggestions? I've been reading how multiple people claim upper 12's with bolt ons and the HC kit.

If your doing H/C go to AI or LE. There is a guy I know with the AI 200cc H/C kit that is putting 430rwhp on the stock shortblock and running 11s

I've heard too many bad stories about LE to recommend them. AI I've heard great things about. Especially after what happened to Josh (Jerzlt1)

Really? I thought the shore boys were happy with their LE stuff, and the manifold bolt hole thing was not LE, it was a subcontractor?

i didnt have any quality of work issues with LE and he specd me a cam that works very well. the only issues that i had were customer service related due to him subcontracting my work out. if i had to do it again i would have gone AI because they do EVERYTHING in house

Wow I did plugs and wires today cause the car felt like it was lacking power down low. After nearly 5 hours of cursing and burning my hands on the heads I discovered two dry rotted wires and the 2 corresponding plugs were disgusting. Now it roasts them at a roll through first, it's hit or miss depending on my shift if it spins second but if second hooks the car torques enough on the driver's side to pull to the right. The entire time the front end stays decompressed.
Defiantly a night and day difference! Gotta get better at grabbing third on the go now.
