Compared to a comparably powerful inboard motor it isn't bad, especially when the weight savings of an inboard/outboard setup.

But still... 70k can get you a pretty decent whole other boat.

I'm sure these motors are capable of doing 90+ mph in a boat about 30 ft long, but the video said they can push a 40+ ft boat to 70 mph....for 70k, I think it's worth it. 70 mph on the water is crazy fast, and in a boat over 40 ft long, that's just rediculous

I guess you're right... fastest i've ever been on the water was like 65ish and that was fast enough for me.

Inboard or hell, even a O/D is much better than an outboard.
Silly things.

Ease of working on, which equates to cost of maintaining them to you.

The outboard's lesser draft, ability to tilt completely out of the water, etc might outweigh that for certain people. It all depends on what you want, that's why I said that before. Boats aren't cheap; not everyone who has a boat has maintenance cost as their only concern.

i have to agree with matt on inboards being cheaper to repair. With these motors though, what is the actually weight savings? Usually outboards are smaller motors than their inboard's of comparable horsepower but with these, you have a big v8 with a supercharger, doesn't seem like you would be saving much weight.

You don't really, the real advantage is the room it frees up in the boat hull, but you also need to have a strong ass transom for that sort of setup. Also OB are much cleaner running compared to a large diesel etc, so people like em more. Also, ruin a OD prop and you can fix it relatively easily, do that on an inboard, and you be an idiot and screwed.
For an inboard compared to outboards you lose all the steering gear, prop shaft, bearings, and no stuffing box to leak like a damn sieve.

They are cheaper/easier to maintain, I never denied that. If you're even thinking of spending this much moeny on an outboard though, cost is not your #1 concern.
These would still weigh significantly less for several reasons...You can put one of these instead of 2 Mercury Verado 250-300 hp motors (or 2 of these instead of 4 Verados). I believe they said these would weigh less than a comparable i/o when the outdrive is taken into account as well.
