Lets talk fuel stabilizers

This was post was linked to on a jet ski forum....what are your opinions on this? Essentially this chemist says that all fuel stabilizers are hogwash except for marvel mystery oil.

http://www.hardcoresledder.com/forum...your-rush.html

And either way, this is a site showing what stations have gas without ethanol (none in NJ but if you're the border you can stop by nearby PA or NY)

i use stabil in the lawn equipment and the snow blower and everything starts up 1st pull. i don;t think i'd put marvel in the gas for a 4 stroke.

Same here. Just have to remember to run the engines for a little bit after you put the Sta-bil in.

Exactly. It's a pretty crazy read.

Read the thread. We know this and that's what Marine Sta-bil is. The point of the link was that a chemist tested these additives and showed they had little to no effect on water separation.

In 20+ years of boating I think I've only used fuel stabilizer once when I had a somewhat full 6 gallon tank of gas at the end of the season. With the boat I just bought I added it hoping there are no issues. I've never put the stuff in any lawnmower, weedwacker or leafblower without any problems so I have no idea if the stuff helps or not.

I don't ever bother with stabalizer in the mower / weedwacker. I'm just stingy with gas in the tank at the end of the season and run 'em dry. Been doing that for ~12 years with no issues yet.

This. Its a friggen jetski, either run it dry, or just worry about flipping it and draining the tank next season.

If you had a couple few hundred gallon tanks of diesel, then yea, you want to make sure they stay fresh over the winter, otherwise, you are thinking too much.

New skis are far more advanced and don't like being flipped over. This also doesn't just apply to skis thus why I posted it here and asked.

I usually throw Stabil in my mower, bike, and IROC for the winter just a a precaution. For a few bucks it's cheap insurance. I try to run the carb dry on the mower and bike after adding it.

Like seen above, I run the mower, weedwacker and leaf blower dry at the end of the season. I do use the Stabil in my chainsaw as that sees only occasional use throughout the year, and draining it each time I do use it is a PITA. Also, after the yardwork season is through I always end up with fuel mix left over, so I treat that with Stabil as well. Never had any issues with it.

I put stabil in my fuel cans when I fill them up, every time. Never had a single problem with my ride-on mower, chainsaw, backpack leaf blower, quad, or any other power equipment.

Gas stabilier

Use STABILT in car that sees little duty, starts up on first crank.

didn't read all of this thread, but lucas makes a fuel stabiler/treatment for ethanol fuel.

this ethanol has been doing quite a number on the needle/seats of carbs on bikes, lawnmowers, quads etc... the needles get stuck in the seats after sitting for a while with the ethanol fuel in them.
I have always drained carbs, filled carbs with trans fluid via the fuel line inlet. and then when using next season, just crack the drain and turn fuel on, the fuel will wash the trans fluid out.
Trans fluid is a detergent type oil so great for keeping bowl clean and no gumming or corrosion will happen.

I see a lot of floats that end up with fuel in them because the ethanol eats away the plastic seam. Usually the replacement float is metal.
