I'll take a new charger SRT8 over one of these any day! They ruined the name long before they made it a 4 door. If anything, the new Charger is rebuilding the name.

Everyone is so negative.
This should be a good car. The only real question is the powertrain and will it deliver. Ford has had issues with its DCT, as did VW when it first brought it out.
6+ gears for a small, low torque engine can do a little hunt-and-peck for gears. I can just imagine the 9spd in this thing. Realize that it is 3 more gears than a Cruze or Focus or any other car in its class?
It has FIVE more gears than a Corolla!! FIVE!

In Fords defense most of their transmissions are crap. How much do you think the extra gears add to the cost of the car? How much more likely is it for a broken trans? How much does that affect a rebuild cost? That's just some of the stuff in my head. I hope the extra 3mpg is worth it..

When I think dodge dart I think total POS with a L6/1bbl setup with incredibly bad build quality. Total junk. Al Bundy had a Dart, it was that big a joke. Let's not wax poetic about the great name Dart.

Dart was an economy car that you happened to be able to throw some cool options at.

This is exactly what I think of when someone says Dodge Dart. My cousin had one, granted, hers had a slant 6 and got nowhere near 40mpg but you get the point.

Yeah, that was my point.

I get that you can get crazy MPGs with triple overdrives or run a very low final drive with short 1-3 gears, but wow... 9? What's next, dual speed rear axles in pickups?

Dual speed rear axles in big trucks is genius and does a lot. I'd rather see that than a 47 speed transmission.

It must be a generation thing because there was nothing cool about the 80's Chargers. They were and still are complete and utter garbage!

But VW really ironed it out and it is amazing from what I hear. I also have heard that much of the complaints about the Ford are that people are simply just not used to it. I wish I had a Focus to drive and check out for myself.

40mpg is the name of the game. If your car doesn't offer a 40mpg car or better, you better be Toyota. The Big 3 can no longer look to be behind the 8 ball when it comes to vehicle tech. Time to push forward.
