Anybody ever change the oil through the dipstick tube?
I need to change the oil in the boat and the engine sits right on the bottom so there's no way to drain it. It looks like I'll need to pump it out the dipstick tube. Has anyone done this before and which pump worked best? The engine has 20W50 in it so it should be fun.

Yup, it works, just make sure to get the engine warm to make the job not take all day.

And then you can go with a vac operated one, they make small ones but I can't seem to find a link.

That style works great for cold oil when you can't run the engine, IE after winterization etc cause you can just hook it up and leave it without fear of burning up the electric pump.

Yep, it's pretty cool. I use it on my Malibu so I never have to crawl under the car, ever.

yeah it most certainly can be done. any kind of fluid evacuator should do the trick. I have never done it personally

7-9 quarts of oil though so I'm sure it will be fun. The transmission actually uses engine oil.

My dad uses a fluid extractor on his 930. I think it's a 9 quart crankcase. He got the extractor from Greg Smith in Newark DE.

Anybody ever try with one of those "drill" pumps that you run off your power drill? I'm leaning towards the vacuum setup and that 6.9 quart looks about perfect for what I'll need.

a drill pump would prob work im a boat mechanic and just use a pep boys universal fuel pump as long as its warm it does it pretty quick

I ended up buying one of those vacuum pumps with a 8 quart capacity. It worked great, I just had to run the engine for a little while to warm up the 20/W50 oil, pump it up and let it suck it out through the tube. The boat has a 7 qt Hamburger oil pan with the wingouts on the sides.
