my car WILL be sold, VOTE on my next one!

My parents are pissed about the ticket I got last week. They are gonna sell my car in the next couple months.

Now, I'm kinda upset by this, but at the same time, I see a bright side to it. This car was killing me financially. Full coverage on insurance was murder. And for the level of performance it offered, the price didn't match.

So, i have a plan. This car has given me F-body Fever. I want another f-body as soon as possible. i will probably have to get a winter beater for now, but come spring/summer i want another F-body. I thought about getting either a late 3rd gen L98 or a mid 4th gen LT1. my parents would probably not let me get the LT1, so the 3rd gen may be my savior. It would only have liability insurance on it, to keep the price low.

Now, I have big plans for my hypothetical car. but, most importantly, i have to get it first. I'm torn between the Camaro and Firebird. I love the way the 3rd gen Camaros look, but at the same time I would enjoy being different and getting a 'Bird. What do you guys think?

if it's a third gen or an lt1, it's gotta be a camaro.
 1st, 2nd, or ls1, and it's gotta be a bird

camaro was the original. the firebird, however large the following, was a rebadge/restyle of the camaro. go for the original.

there's good arguments for both cars....
I always loved the way KITT looked in "Knight Rider". an all-black 'bird wouldn't be too bad.

if you go with a late 3rd gen you gotta consider teh 91-92 birds. the banshee nose years are really cool looking and have a great combo of handling adn power.
you could always look around for a pace car with the 3.8 turbo motor and explain to your rents that it is "just" a V6.
a lot fo it will depend on yoru budget when it is time to shop. 3rd gen birds are noticably more expensive than the camaro's with equal options

any 3rd gens will be '89-92. I'm not so sure about the '91-92 firebird front end...it looks good sometimes, but other times it looks like crap.

get what you like, don't go by who votes what.
but i'll put in my 2 cents anyway. keep in mind these are my opinions only, not trying to start any sort of war.

i personally like the thirdgens over the 4th gens in terms of styling and interior space. Of the 4th gen lt1 cars, about the only ones I really like are the camaro SS and the firehawk or Ws6 cars with the ram air hoods. alternately the thirdgen cars, there aren't many i actually dislike.

Drivetrain wise, the LT1 is really not that much of a step up from the L98 either IMO. speed density l98/auto cars that aren't burdened with options can run low 14's bone stock. Stock Lt1/auto 4th gens are probably right around the same place. The lt1/6 speed cars are quicker, which is an advantage over the thirdgens, but the 6 speed swap on a thirdgen is no big deal either, and I'd guess that a t56 l98/SD thirdgen would run with the lt1 cars. I did my iroc like 2 and a half years ago, and I know at least a dozen other people who have done the swap.

Finally, another consideration is that since the last of the lt1 cars are about 8 years old now, either way, you're gonna need to work on the car. Not to mention you'll probably want to mod it as well. The thirdgens are probably cheaper to work on or mod, and certainly easier to work on under the hood.

Come on all my car needs is a working transmission and a good tune. Slap a decent rear end in it, and youll be running mid-low 14's all day long.
Cosmetically its all there, could use 1 new tire, and some winshield wipers. I really would like to see it go to good hands.
