Took 3rd at E-Town on Sunday!!
Not to brag or anything, but I took 3rd place in the 70-89 F-Body class at E-Town yesterday. I was the only thirdgen there and there were about 25 or so secondgens in my class. I probably could have almost taken second but I lost a bunch of points no non-stock parts like my sfc's, steering wheel, wheel, radiator, and some more.
The car that took first place was clearly better, but also had to have had another $10k into that mine doesn't have.
All in all it was a hot, sunburnt, but fun day. I met BenCar from the board here and he seems pretty enthusiastic about the tv program you guys are trying to put together.....kind of sparked my interest for it now as well.

Congrats!
Your car is really clean, it's no surprise that you did well at the show.

Thanks. I thought the deck was going to be stacked against me since all of the other cars were atleast 25 years old and mine is much newer, but I guess the judges did their jobs right.

Congrats. I'm surprised that they even judged you at all with all the non-stock items. But that shows you that they still want nice cars in the show and will just deduct points for the mods. You probably would have done better on Saturday, but there were a couple of really sweet cars there on Saturday so who knows. Sorry I didn't make it Saturday and hope you got good directions to E-town.

Yeah I was surprised that the judge picked out some of the items that weren't stock. Like the radiator, but I guess the Be Cool cap gave it away. And he caught the SFC's when he looked underneath, but they are bright red so they stick out like a sore thumb.
I used the directions from mapquest and had no real problems.

don't be surprised. i'm sure it wasn't the judge's first time judging an event, and they are 'trained' to look for tell-tale signs of non-stock items.
you should be proud, though, as third is nothing to sneeze at. good job.

Nice job with 3rd! I was in the car show a couple of years ago but didn't place. There were 4 or 5 thirdgens that were completely stock without any paint flaws and new wheels.
I was a little disapointed with the swap meet. I did like how many intake manifolds were for sale (cheap) but no good rears, transmissions, heads, or accessories. Too much garage junk . I also found only 1 guy selling a few ecms. I was hoping to find at least a few venders with ecms for sale .

Congratulations, and it was nice talking to you Sunday.
Sure sounds like you had a better set of Judges than the ones who judged my Plymouth. I was in the 'Swap Meet' when they came by, but the Wife was by the car, and she witnessed the dolt (a.k.a Judge), 'paw print' my 60 Plymouth in several locations as he judged the car, and on top if that, I still came away with nothing for my efforts.
I'd say though that your experience against that ultra restored 70 T/A, pretty much makes my point though for that 'Average Guy's Car Show' project we have going.

That 70 was quite pristine, however that level is not unobtainable on a decent budget. It's a matter of spending the money on the right tools and then taking your time. Now I can definately do that caliber of work and spend the same amount of money as I did on my car....I just have better equipment now. Plus the fact that I can paint my own car now gives me an extra $5k to play with for next time.
Prevo.....you're right the vendors were quite disappointing. The fact that I was more interested in looking at the knives and swords that were for sale than the junk parts is pretty pathetic. I only made it through the side on the Goodyear lane however. The other side may have had better parts for all I know. 3 hours of walking, dragging my girlfriend with me (who didn't complain once), and getting sunburn was enough.
I got lucky with the judging I think. The guy really knew his stuff. I came back from the swap meet at 3 and all the cars around me were judged but mine wasn't. I had to go to the tower and drag someone out to my car to get it judged. Guess it's a good thing I did.

wow that was u?
Hey, do you have the white iroc with the chrome rims. If so my father and i loved the car. We stayed by the car and talked a little bit trying to see if the owner was around, but no one showed, you must have been shopping lol. I was actually pretty pleased with the amount of parts for our cars (3rd gen) i was expecting alot less. We are so pissed, there was supposably sp? a person called 3rd gen camaro parts from morristown nj. We never made it to the blue side because we had to leave eairly. I would have liked to stop and see it but never realized that he was there until driving home when i was looking at the newspaper flyer. I dont know if you were on the red side at all but did you see the black 85-87 iroc for sale. a little rough but only 1200..... i wanted it so bad but mom and dad gave it the big NO right away. Like i siad awsome car, and congrats on the 3rd place finish. Albert III

If you walked the 'Pit Side' of the 'Swap Meet', then you saw the best side of what was there.
In regards to that fellow's 70 T/A, you've still proved my point, in that believe it or not, there are a lot of 'car guys & gals' out there, who would be daunted by seeing what that guy had, and not realize that they might be able to do the same thing, if they're able to put the 'sweat equity' into the project. That's where the 'Average Guy's Car Show' project comes in.
It will show people that the average car enthusiast with a job, CAN produce a stunning car, or at the very least, a darn nice looking one, on their own.
Yeah, sometimes persistence does pay off. I'd just like to get my hands around the neck of that moron Judge that paw printed my Plymouth. I was always told that as a Judge, you DO NOT touch a participant's car for ANY reason, without the express permission of the vehicle owner.

Sorry I don't remember seeing that car. I did see a black IROC for sale in the vendor area on the Goodyear side of the track though.
