Its finally happening!
Hey guys
Some of you may remember me. The original j3w is back! Aaaanyway, thanks to a member on here I am finally picking up a motor for my 86 Recaro Trans Am next weekend! I plan on cleaning it up and doing the swap within a month or so. 9 long years that car has sat idle in my garage with its original seized 305. The car was parked with a full tank of gas and I need it out of there. Dropping the tank isn't an option and please keep in mind this is a sever budget build. I am purchasing a home with the girlfriend soon and plan on proposing this summer. What are your thoughts guys? Should I just siphon it? disconnect the fuel line and let it pump out?

Hahaha yea, you've only seen the 01 SS I used to have. This 86 is in pristine condition. It has less than 50k original miles. Im driving a 2010 SS now but im dying to get back in my 86!

im pretty sure there is, ive tried. maybe a smaller hose. little fish tank pump and hose maybe lol

Then he can certainly pump it with the fuel pump. No guarantees it won't hate life at the end of it

sorry I never got back to your PM sooner. lol.
I used a fuel siphon setup from autozone to drain the tank of my SS years back. Cost like 2 bucks and it did take a while to slip it down the filler neck but eventually worked.
Yes, you could pump it out with the fuel pump by hot-wiring it.
or you could disconnect the line off the fuel filter and use it by means of the siphoning effect to pull as much fuel as possible out that way. Just have a few 5 gallon buckets ready.
I know you say its a budget build... BUT... if the car is that clean and that original, don't try to cut corners, take your time, and do it right. I'm pretty sure you will though.

I was going to suggest this but I don't think you will be able to pull through the pump. I have never tried, only assumed.

Yea, im taking my time. I just have limited time on the lift at work to do the swap since I cant do it at home. The guy who is helping me says its no big deal but im just looking to be prepared for when the day comes. This will be my first motor swap. First priority is getting it running again and then ill be able to work on it at home to make everything perfect for it sees actual road time. Couldn't be happier to finally be doing this tho

Thanks Ted! Im so excited about this. Plans have changed as of recently so its going to take a bit longer to get done but my goal is to be able to drive it by my birthday in June. Already spoke with my detail guy who cant wait to get his hands on it to make it shine again. Its still in spectacular shape, just super dusty and dirty from sitting in a garage with an open window for the past 9 years. I buffed a small area of the sail panel last weekend and the paint looks great. Cant wait to see how good my detailer gets it to look and to see it actually moving down the road. ill have to make a trip to a NJFBOA meet with it!
