Did you read the whole thread? Â*QQ plates have been discussed above and they won't work for him because he wants to drive the car to work. Â*Also, a 1972 Camaro with a 4 speed will have a smog pump so it doesn't predate emission's equipment so that will be the toughest part about passing. Â*They won't be able to tell if it's working or not so you could put a dummy setup on the car just to pass inspection and then remove it for 2 years until it was time to be inspected again.
He wasm't talkin about QQ, he said collectors. According to him, they're different (I don't know any better, just pointing it out.

QQ plates are for collectors/antiques/limited use vehicles so it's all the same. As for the smog pump, any 4 speed Camaro going back to 1967 had a smog pump so they could technically fail you for not having it. I'm not sure when they started adding the smog to the automatics. Being a 72, they probably wouldn't even realize it's supposed to have it because they'll just be staring at the car and smiling!

I should be easy to pass inspection then. I was able to get my old 68 SS396 to pass emisisons and that engine was built up pretty insane.

qq and collectors registration are NOT the same, thats what i was explaining. i had collector on my GTO, not qq, i went through it all myself. yes, if he wants to drive more than 3000 miles a year then the collectors wont do. and if he wants to drive it at all really then qq's wont do. youll have to do regular registration which means regular inspections. you might have emissions problems and i say this because they actually held my 68 GTO up to 68 standards (i didnt think there were any!) it almost passed but i failed for too many hydrocarbons because of the timing advance. id say if you wanted you could just disconnect/change the speedometer after you go through the inspection and hook it back up/replace the original when you are ready to go through again in 2 years if you want collectors and drive more than 3000/year.

The "QQ" plates require NO inspection EVER, and there is NO sticker of any type issued for placement on the car. My AMX has been a QQ car for around 8 years now. And I have never been hassled by the cops, even if I'm just cruising around doing the "7-11 parking lot shows."

yeah it all depends on your local cops, my uncle got a warning because he drove his QQ Chevelle to the grocery store and was waiting outside to pick up my aunt. cop said he wasnt allowed to run errands per the guidelines.

you know, that's what i was thinking. i had always thought QQ meant no inspection, but i was confusing it with collectors where they give you a special sticker. my bad.

so i guess it comes down to mileage, then. you can unhook your speedometer cable, but that could get you into trouble on those nights where you're alone on the parkway or something and the speed just starts inching up.

i know for a fact that if you have a tach and get the car up to speed with the speedometer connected, then reference the tach and see what your RPMs are at the speed limit then you can use that as a reference when there is no other traffic. i knew a girl who did that with her mach 1. she either hadn't connected the speedo or had it disconnected for mileage purposes. when i asked her how she knew how fast she was going, she related the above. fairly intelligent for a broad.

either way, it's a special application process. you've had collectors before, so you know the process, and i outlined the process for QQ should you decide to go that way. good luck, either way you decide to go.
