This sucks. People die all the time, but it sucks because it seems like the three who died where just passangers, and couldnt have done a damn thing even if they didnt want to be in it for the race. Something has to be done about theese numbnuts, by the time i get my liscence ill be paying 4 grand a year in insurance, for my 4thgen because theese asshats cant save it for the track.

I have muscle car's, camaro's, and an INTEGRA, I'm not getting offensive but ricers aren't the only people that do dumb ****, I bet everyone on here has street raced at least once before or still does ,I've done it before. The car has nothing to do with the dumb ass behind the wheel. I do agree with everyone ,KEEP IT ON THE TRACK.

From what im hearing i see three problems wiht this, tho im not defending street racing, take it to the track or sit back. One, they were racing when there was traffic, 2, im sure it wasent a light to light thing, if your getting beat dont try to take it to like 100+ and then think your paul walker and can go thru traffic, and three, there were other peopel in the car, so now your ego goes up, you gotta impress them, but once again, if your beat your beat, and take it on a deselate road, is it that hard to go on a 20 minute ride to a dead street and boogie a little down it, nothign too serious. But yeah kids these days are too influenced by movies and there friends and think it cant happen to them, if your gonna race, pay the 15 bucks, and do it on the track cause 1. you get a time slip, 2 theres a crowd there you can show off to, and 3. the track is built for safe speed. sad to see this happen.

Please keep all of us updated on this it is a great idea. Hell, I'll print flyers and keep them in my Z/28. The next time some ricer idiot wants to race me,I'll casually hand the bitch a flyer of when and where. If there's anything the rest of us on this board can do to help, let us know. If we can get this together the police won't be tailing us as much and will realize that we are responsible drivers(unlike the ricers).

What really burns me is that the star ledger called it "Drag Racing". That's a pet peeve of mine because it equates legitimate racers with these idiots.

Time to draft up another letter to the editor...

I hope this jackass that caused this get locked up for a long time. He had no business being out in society to begin with. In addition to over 36 motor vehicle violations:

- he's scheduled to be sentenced April 27 in Superior Court, Freehold, after pleading guilty to theft and weapons charges stemming from an alleged carjacking and kidnapping incident that began in Lakewood and ended in Spring Lake Heights last June.

- was indicted last month in Ocean County on charges of receiving stolen property and theft in January 2006.

- and in August, he was sentenced in Monmouth County to a one-year probationary term following a guilty plea to an August 2005 burglary in Neptune.

It's a shame it's now taken killing 3 people to get him off the streets.

So if I do laps around the Flemington Circle that's circle track?

You are missing my point. The problem is that they are giving drag racers a bad name.

This is why I keep on telling my little brother that he's not going to get a fast car until he's 30. I think it's safe to say that a lot of these street racers are young and immature. Therefore, they should be driving hybrid cars and bicycles--at least until they're 30.

I was told that the turn she was making was illegal, but people just end up doing it anyway.

[QUOTE=Blacdout96;324178], and take it on a desolate road,

not too many years back its what 2 turbo Buick's thought except a limo driver who was not familiar with the areas racing rules was making a U Turn with a 30 foot limo black of coarse and it was at night and the Buick hit and killed the bride and groom on their wedding night at over 100 MPH went completely through the car, this was out by Kennedy airport some might remember -- no place on the street is with out danger to others and than your life is all but over -- no do overs let the insurance pay for it when people die -- jz

sounds to me like this accident would have happened anyway, since the left turner didn't yield to oncoming traffic...but that's a moot point because of the dastardly acts committed by the guys racing.

but i'm not defending the dudes trying to haul ass in the hon-duhs, i just don't like one sided finger pointing.

I feel sorry for the families of the dead young people...such a tragedy =(

That is a pretty broad assumption. And yes, those were 'dastardly acts'. Do not act like they are being misrepresented. That is way too busy a road, with blind driveways and crossroads, to pull that crap.

#1 - the person turning left, illegal or not, obviously misjudged the speed the cars were coming, because there is no way she reasonably expected other cars to be going that fast, #2 if the cars 'racing' had been doing the speed limit, they would have had much more time to adjust to the situation. Their speed limited their options to 1 - crash & die.

These guys deserve every inch of finger pointing they get and then some. They (the 'racing' drivers) do not deserve even a remote amount of sympathy. Not one ounce.

This has to be a lesson for every one who races on the street, or just drives too aggressively, or likes to brag about 'kills'. There are too many variables on the road that you cannot anticipate. You doing 100 mph on route whatever may not be the 100% cause of an accident, but at those rates, you severely limit your options, endangering yourself and others. I always thought “kill” is an interesting choice of words....

you misunderstood my intensions. like i said i wasn't defending them...I just don't like ignoring any sides of any story - the left turner didn't help matters much. no, those jackasses in the hon-duhs shouldn't have been racing on a crowded street like 33...I don't disagree at all...

I also said that I felt sorry for the families of the young people...I'm a parent and I can't imagine burying either of my girls....under ANY circumstances

truce

It's all good, indeed.

I was thinking about this more today. "Back in the day", I drove at rates well above the speed limit. My college roommate and I used to 'road ralley' from my house in Belmar back to college (Montclair), usually early Sunday AM so there was little to no traffic. He in his 84 Z28, me in my 82 TA. We liked to pull the 66 mile trip (mostly GSP) in under 45 minutes.

Well, one Saturday, we had a freaky spring snow. Now, by Sunday the roads were dry & clear from my driveway on out. So we did our usual trip. Well, there is a gradual bend going north near the arts center. Well, for whatever reason, literally right before that bend, I slowed down a bit and shifted to the middle lane, maybe I was f-ing with the radio or something. Just as we passed that bend, the whole left lane was snow covered. We would have slid right off down into the express lanes. Jeff pulled up next to me with trhis WTF look. We slowed down the rest of that trip. I can still picture it like it happened yesterday.

It isn't the speed that kills, it's the unexpected things out of your control (left turns, snow, blow outs, potholes, squirrels, etc.) coupled with the speed that does (well, technically it's the sudden stop that kills).

responsible street racers/ing...isn't that like military intelligence and jumbo shrimp. Im guilty of street racing too but there is nothing responsible about it. Taking up both lanes of a back country road and blasting down it at 100 or so mph is just a less risky way of doing it.

Just saw them bring the driver into court in a wheelchair on News 12. Three counts of vehicular homicide and one count of aggravated assault for the guy who survived the crash. Don't think it was worth it.
