it's illegal to street race.
cop writes a ticket, makes racer go to court. judge hands down fine and court costs, but since racer had such a good night, he's laughing as he counts the bills off of his stack to pay the court clerk. that night, he's back out on the street looking to stip another race.

get it? crushing the car stops the vicious circle. no more street racing if there is no car. you know what i find offensive? people who think that street racing is ok. people die in street races. and sometimes it's an innocent bystander. now, that's offensive.

Only a matter of time before in their eyes there's no differentiation between a street racer and someone cruising around in a modified car who only races at the track. After all, you can't tell one from the other just by looking at them,

I have to agree, Honduh's or not. Getting a car crushed for street racing is total crap. All it would take is someone messing with you and taking off, a cop sees that pulls you both over for "street racing" and BAM your car is crushed for no reason. Its crap. All it would take is 1 bored cop to screw someone innocent over.

yo kid look at mah rimz...lol it would depend on the situation, If you are a repeat offender, yank driving privileges. If it's a big dollar race and stolen parts are involved, they will just steal another car and build something until they get caught again...If someone wants to do something bad enough they are going to do it regardless. An organized street race is one thing and messing around in traffic is another...They were talking about an organized race, a road would more then likely be closed and just the street racers are there, everyone knows what could happen in terms of an accident and if someone does die, its part of life...you knew the consequences when you showed up that night, you can die anywhere in a car it happens everyday...street racing will never completely stop it can only slow down

there is a video floatin around on youtube of an eagle talon racing a lingenfelder vette (course the talon gets crushed) , could you imagine spending $100,000+ on like a lingenfelder vette or say a viper, lambo, etc and "getting caught street racing" thats destroying like 1/3 of a fairly big house ... that's f***** up

Simple solution to that problem, Don't street race. If you had your $100,000 car crushed for racing it is your own fault not the cops. Course with a $100,000 car you should get away..........

in this situation yes, however it can pave the way for more and more leniency on the reason for crushing. "Well if we can do A we can do B.... and eventually that makes it close enough to doing Y"

No. Well, not most of us. LOL.
Where is the correlation between crushing the cars & the stolen parts? How does that hurt the guys stealing & selling parts? Do they really think this is a deterrent to guys looking to buy used parts? They might not have even known they were stolen. Do you check the pedigree of all the used parts you buy? I certainly don’t. I don’t see why the parts being stolen or not should impact the outcome.
Do they crush guns used in robberies? Just stolen guns?
I'll ask again.

Technically, the stolen parts are not owned by the ‘street racer’ in question. They belong to the rightful owner, the person or insurance company that holds the title. There could be some rights being trampled on there. Not surprising in California.
Did they say if they were hunting down the group/people that sells the stolen engines? I’m sure the street race punks gave up their suppliers ASAP.

What are they punishing, street racing or theft? I agree with BMR, the punishment does not fit the crime – it makes no logical sense. And I'm not soft on street racing. I think actual street racers (not fast cars in general) shoud be punished.

Easier way to stop the cycle? throw them in jail. They can't rae anything behind bars.

My thoughts exactly. It would have been more beneficial to sell those cars for like $5 then to crush them and just create garbage.

look at it from a lawyers point of veiw... they city/town sells that parts(or even whole car cheap) and soemone gets hurt or blames a bought part for soemthing, the city is now facing a huge lawsuit. regardless if they sell parts "as-is" etc. Plus if its stolen parts, the insurance companies probably already paid out so the iriginal owners have no claim to it anymore im many cases, and the insurance companies already wrote it off in their books, they dont want parts back. By crushing the cars, its the end all and leaves no loose ends that could come back and bite them in the ass

Insurance companies don't throw money away. If there is salvage to be had, they get it. It all sounds like crap to me (not your reply, what CA is doing).

Wouldn't that go for any car sold used or w/o a title though?
EDIT: Or any aftermarket non-OEM parts for that matter.

Do you actually believe that?
My ass is sleeping at 1AM and not thinking of racing a car, lol. If you schedule doesn't allow you to go to a track during normal hours that's just tough.
