6 cars crushed in Cali for street racing
just saw it on tv, yesterday 6 cars were crushed. The cars were in the impound for being related to street racing. At first i was like "WTF, crushed for racing??" but then they went on to say that those cars all had either a stolen engine or stolen transmission... so i guess thats what made them impossible to return to the owner they were impounded from.
After hearing that, i guess its all right. hopefully if you own ALL the car, they wont be able to crush it, lol. The cars i saw being crushed was a 99-01 Stang, a civic and an integra, not sure what the other 3 were.
EDIT: found a pic, but doesnt include the stang, maybe that was a different thing... and this is important as well...

Police need a court order to destroy the cars. They must prove that the serial or identification numbers on a vehicle or its parts are removed, altered or destroyed.

we discussed a story like this a while ago. personally i think that any car that they can prove as being involved in an organized street race SHOULD be crushed. and the owner should be made to watch. California, like NJ has enough dragstrips that street racing should be a non-issue.

stop who from doing it?
the california policy of crushing cars invovled in street racing was upheld in court not too long ago, taht is why this came up almost a year ago and then got dropped for a while. there was an injunction while the legalities were figured out.
it was shown in court that the cars that were determined to be invovled in street racing and got crushed were shown beyond a shadow of a doubt to have been invovled in an organized "criminal enterprise". the premise is that street racing widely invovles gambling, thus it is a way for people to make money. that money can be seen as the profit of a criminal enterprise if the event that made the profit can be shown to be both prearranged and intentionally an illegal act.
the great part is that the case that caused the 9+ month stoppage to the action was all based on someone who got busted big time in court because of his own passengers video camera. apparently everything from the phone call ahead of time, to the meet up, to the stips of the race, to determining the location, to the race itself, and even the winner collecting the cash was all on the tape. lol
when this all first came up there was a rumor that a bunch fo states were looking into creating similar laws, so far cali is alone on this one.
i love that they left the rimzzzzzz on the cars. lol the red ones on bottom made me LOL literally

tons of drag strips like jersey but only open to 9/10 like here..... streets are open 24/7.... most of the people do not even come out til like 10 or so due to work, family, kids, gf, and god only knows what else... if the track was open to 1 or 2 am for a street racing night.... it would save lifes, cars, and be a huge moneymaker where a lot of people would show up....

so the tracks shoudl stay open 24/7 just so people won't be criminals?
the tracks in jersey are open 6 of the 7 days of the week. if your schedule precludes you from being able to plan far enough ahead to make it to one, the odds are that it would stop you from being out until 2am just to find a race too.
there is no reason to take it to the streets just because you want to race or jsut because you can keep yourself busy until midnight. look at how many big money show downs happen at the track. it isn't because paying an entry fee is something they want to do, it is because even the big timers know there are 3 safe locations with in our great state to get it in.
this is actually a topic that is going to become the topic of much discussion for everyone with in the next 24hours on this site.

not saying they should be open 24/7 just to 1 or 2 would be good enough...
what tracks are open 6 out of the 7 days of the week? just curious to know so i can go tonight....
and dont get me wrong...ive seen many high doller races and been in a few myself at the track... i personally wouldnt race my chevelle on the street its simply to fast and would be very dangerous.... theres 2 spots i would however and there are also spots where other low 9 sec cars have run o.k. on the street.... the streets ment for 10-14 second cars.... single digit ones i think its to dangerous..... its also dangerous for 10-14 if you cant drive either or hit a bump, pothole, etc.... but the power of 10 and below you simply can not put all of it down to the street as it is not prepped like the sticky track.....

jared
Island is open friday, saturday, sunday
E-town is open wednesday, friday, saturday, sunday
Atco is open tuesday, thursday, friday, saturday, sunday
it is also very rare for all three tracks to have major events going on at the same time, actually they try to avoid overlapping as much as possible. so, other than monday nights, the odds are that there is a track to play at.
it woudl be great if the tracks coudl stay open later, but i think that has more to do with the surrounding home owners and politicians than the track managers desire to get out early.

atco is a haul for me... i dont really go there....my cars would drink alot of gas going there as well... atco would be good for a stip tho.... you could always be like follow me there then run to prove the car is a streetcar....
surrounding home owners and politicians are the downfall of late night tracks...i know that....

if you alter your car in CA, they are saying, then it shouldn't even be registered for use on the street. if they find out you altered your car and you are anywhere near a street race, then they should crush your car. we don't have this type of law in NJ, but if you watch the parallels between the laws in the two states, then you should be very aware that NJ might be right behind CA in enacting laws like this.
the bottom line is that there have always been street races and they are finally taking the ultimate step in curbing it. kinda hard to street race with no car...

lol kasey those were my own words though. but yes, these were cars impounded during street racing AND the engines or other main part were found to have been from other stolen vehicles.
so basically, if you get caught with a stolen engien in your car.. you loose your car, which is common sense in just about any state. ive seen a VW and a porsche taken in spring valley NY for having engines that came back to stolen cars. sure they didnt crush them, but honestly, what will the police do with them? they cant be given back, so they may as well crush them.
If you mod your car for fun and track racing, and all your part were obtained legally, then you have nothign to worry about. IF you get caught racing even then, as long as nothing come back to an altered or stolen VIN #, they can impound your car, but they cant crush it.

What a waste of taxpayer dollars. Strip them & sell the parts.
Technically, the stolen parts are not owned by the ‘street racer’ in question. They belong to the rightful owner, the person or insurance company that holds the title. There could be some rights being trampled on there. Not surprising in California.
Did they say if they were hunting down the group/people that sells the stolen engines? I’m sure the street race punks gave up their suppliers ASAP.
