And I think it was a factory freak combined with a dude that can really drive, in other words it wasn't the norm or average car like this random dude off the street with his personal GTR.
Personally I think the front ends of the GTR's are really ugly, however the backs of them look great (a lot better than the rear of the new Camaro IMO). I like my American muscle just as much as the rest of you guys, but I can't deny cheep raw power like this in mass quantities. I think its going to be the next Supra in the sense that with just a BPU (Basic Part Upgrade) from the factory (boost controller, downpipe for example) you could turn this car into a real monster.

the random dude wasn't driving, he just let them test it. it wouldnt make sense if they didn't have their own driver.

If its not the owner, the video made it seem as though it was as it anounces "he showed up at the air strip with his GTR" as it shows the same guy in the car that test drives it later in the video. Not that it matters much anyways since it looks like the GTR is doing most of the driving and launching compared to the skill needed to get a great launch in a Z06 (at least one capable of those fast times).

Besides being Butt-ugly, aren't they AWD like the R34? I'd be interested to see how reliable it is with all the problems the R34 had. I'll also bet it will cost as much or more then the Z06. To each their own but i'd rather have a car I can drive then one the computer drives for me so I don't break it.

It says something like "he showed up at the strip and let us beat the piss out of it"

It says exactly at 32 seconds "he showed up at the AMI airstrip outside Tokyo with his GTR" as it shows the same guy in the car that later is testing it, which is why I got the assumption it was both the owner and the driver. Again, not that it matters since the car pretty much launches itself and looks like it makes it almost effortless to launch the car hard.

my thoughts exactly. technology = boring and more stuff to break. they should make a manual version as well to accomodate everyone

as fancy as paddle shifters are, there's nothing quite like pulling second real hard with a regular shifter.

i didnt read this whole thread (too long)... but ive read up on this new nissan and all i can say is let nissan enjoy it while it lasts because if its true that it can outpeform the z06....it dosent matter because the ZR1 will just dominate it...
the corvette is back on top...it is truly a supercar now

Lol, yeah but that is the whole point. It costs less than a Z06 while still outperforming it. Even if the ZR1 outperforms the GTR, the GTR will cost TONS less.

It has yet to be proven that the GTR outperforms the Z06 in the real world and, the GTR is not cheaper than a Z06. They can be had for the same price.

I thought the Z06 price tag was more than 70k? I guess it would depend on the dealer. As for the numbers, performance wise the GTR is putting down quicker times by the books.
You can argue that its a different story on the street, but both were tested by similar test drivers for the numbers in the magazines.

2008 Z06 MSRP is $72,125 according to Chevy's site. I believe it was $68,9xx for the first year of the C6 Z06.

I am all about the American Muscle, but I do have to admit that the GTR is definatly a contender and compared to the Z06 it definatly has its strong points. The Z06 looks about a million times better, even though I do find the rear of the GTR to be attractive with the taillights. The GTR does slightly out perform the Z06 and they have the same sticker price (as recenlty shown to me).
The big advantage I do see over the Z06 is that the GTR (if built like most any other Japeneese factory Turbo car) could easily handle more boost with the stock (or a larger aftermarket) Turbo's giving it a very inexpensive upgrade to gobs of extra power probable all on the stock motor. This is why Supra's are appealing to me as it has been shown time and time again that the stock motor will take enough boost to show 1,000 RWHP. This flat out amazes me, and it makes it desirable as well as who can't honestly say that they wouldn't want to throw a large Turbo on a car, and not have to touch the motor and make that kind of power. Not sure yet if the GTR's motor will take the same level of the abuse that a 2-JZE will in a Supra, but I would almost expect it to.
