so if i thought i saw something in front of me and nailed the brakes, should i get an "exhibition of braking power" ticket? just like the acceleration thing, i NEVER anticipate what someone else would do, i just drive with my eyes peeled. i dont say "hmm, i think he/shes gonna pull out of that intersection like a grandma and i have time to pull out. driving a motorcycle, i dodge near accidents all the time. i cant expect anyone to even stop at an intersection, cause ive seen bad things happen

yeah like i misworded it. you can anticipate other driver's actions. but you can't fully rely on it. if you are waiting to pull out, someone is approaching you with their blinker on from somewhat of a distance, do you assume it is safe to pull out? no, you assume they have their blinker on.
oh and i pull out into traffic pretty much all of the time and throttle up to speed pretty good. i don't slow down for corner's really either. can you get a ticket for the recommended speed limit of curves? surprisingly, i haven't

white speed limit signs are mandatory, yellow are suggested/recommended. You cant get a "speeding ticket", but too fast and you can easily get a careless or reckless.

No, but if the guy rear ends you it's his fault for not leaving enough following distance. And that's pretty much straight out of a state trooper's mouth. When I got rear ended on Rt 78 that's what they all told me.
And anticipating/driving defensively isn't necessarily a conscious thing- I don't think too many people sit out there taking time to think to themselves about what to do. But I'll bet every one of us does this.

I just scoured my NJ Title 39 book and can't find ANYTHING called "Exhibition of Speed." To the best of my knowledge, burnouts and driving like an idiot are covered by Careless Driving (N.J.S. 39: 4-97). Driving like a COMPLETE idiot with no regard whatsoever for public safety is covered by Reckless Driving (N.J.S. 39: 4-96).
Of course, I say TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE and the resources I have available to me right now. I'm sure that if NJ has a law specifically for "Exhibition of Speed," Jim will find it.

California Vehicle Code§ 23109.

For purposes of this section, an event in which the time to cover a prescribed route of more than 20 miles is measured, but where the vehicle does not exceed the speed limits, is not a speed contest.
2. No person shall aid or abet in any motor vehicle speed contest on any highway.
3. No person shall engage in any motor vehicle exhibition of speed on a highway, and no person shall aid or abet in any motor vehicle exhibition of speed on any highway.
4. No person shall for the purpose of facilitating or aiding or as an incident to any motor vehicle speed contest or exhibition upon a highway in any manner obstruct or place any barricade or obstruction or assist or participate in placing any barricade or obstruction upon any highway

seems that they think his sudden outburst of speed...aka exhibition of speed...could be misconstrued as trying to initiate a race. i know toms river has the law because of their street racing along 37.
exhibition of horsepower ticket is something i would covet
