The reason you don't see harness bars is they are a compromise. If you are going fast enough to need a racing harness, then you also need a roll bar or roll cage. It sounds like maybe one of these products could serve your purpose. They fit into a finished interior and afford you a higher level of protection. Mounting the shoulder harness is critical, so read up and don't put yourself in a dangerous situation. Generally speaking, the lap belt should hold you down into the seat, the shoulder harness is to hold you back against the seat. If the shoulder harness is pulling you down into the seat, that's bad. And if the horizontal bar the shoulder belts are attached to is too low, that's what happens, the shoulder harnesses will compress your back like Bonzo and the others have stated.

There are probably other manufacturers, but these guys have a pretty good reputation in the autox arena. I wouldn't recommend a bolt in bar for anything more than autox or the occasional HPDE track day, beyond that you should consider a custom built bar or cage.

Maybe the street sport bar is a workable solution?

Sorry we thought you might want to be safe, and given your profile says you are 16, I'm sure some people here are assuming you may not be aware of the safety concerns of what you are asking for. Next time we will just tell you want you want to hear, damn the results. Good luck.

Feather-light suspension, Konis just couldn't hold. I'm so glad I took a look inside your showroom doors.

I could be wrong??? I don't have a rulebook handy. But I thought even NHRA allowed the rear/shoulder belts to be mounted to the floor for 10.0 or slower if they were the Y-type where the two shoulder belts join into a single belt that bolted to the floor? But I think rules state where or how it needs to be bolted in, something like x inches behind the seat.

I tried seaching all the supplier websites I have book marketed and didn't come up with any harness bars. But there are allot out there for other cars, maybe you could do some cross reference and see if another car would work or be able to be modified?

One thing I'd also like to point out. One issue with shoulder straps in that you can actually slide out of them if you do not have seats with slots in them. I just found out recently they actually make a strap that will connect the belts to the seats. I can get the company info if needed. Seems it came about from the Corvette owners that autocross and didn't want to change out or have to slots/cut into their stock seats.

I got stopped in a PA police saftey inspection, They had a bunch of cars pulled off to the side and there were probably 15-20 police in total. as I got the front of the line the officers startig looked at me and pointing (cage, harness, 4" exhaust etc). They walked over, started laughing and said "Yup your safe". Handy me the cLick it or ticket flyer and sent me on my way.

I won't take this any further off topic after this.

John,

It is my understanding that Y-type harnesses are no longer NHRA legal. Simpson and the like recommend only mounting it to the floor if you get the angles correct, and I think that puts the mounting point pretty far behind the seat. If you have the company info for that strap please shoot me a PM. I know somebody with a Vette that didn't cut their stock seats- fits what you described to a T.

On topic:

Even though I don't think this is the way to go, shoot this guy an email and see if he will ship it for you:
