I know there have been successful Linux installations on the iPhone and 1st gen iPod touch, but I haven't followed it much.

^^You can drag and drop on i-tunes you just need to set your i-pod to manage music manually in the options.

He doesn't want iTunes though. He's looking for a simple drag and drop interface without all the unneeded crap that iTunes has. Just like you would have on a thumb drive that's plugged into your computer.
