To a point they did - along with other companies like Lingenfelter and TPIS.
Don't forget that SLP had the first emissions legal bolt-on performance parts for the TPI motors back when aftermarket companies were turning their backs on EFI and dealing with emissions standards. Also remember that SLP parts were sold through and installed by GM dealerships - so they were using them to add performance to new and recently purchased GM cars (and trucks). A lot of engineering and testing went into the products - something GM didn't want to do; so the partnership worked a long time.
I'm not saying their products' quality went down over time, just that their impact cannot be ignored in the performance sector. Easily in the top 10 companies for late 80's and 90's performance car parts, not even counting the Firehawks...

i called today and spoke to Don at SLP. very helpful. they will count the gift certificate as valid. They dont have much left for 3rd gen cars, especially in teh $50 range. so I got a spark plug socket and a SLP logo to put with some other stickers in the garage. i was happy with their customer service.

I just heard from my contact at SLP - today is his last day with the company, he will be with Roush now and they are closing the Toms River facility in a few weeks once the cars in process are out the door.
He also mentioned the new owners have zero interest in reviving any of the old catalog for products no longer in SLP's lineup, so buy up your runners now before they go away!
