i agree. that and by selling the parts back to the public it could be seen as encouraging more street racing and someone would have something to say about that

OR it could be viewed that the local governments are trying to "cash in" on the street racing craze which would then raise concerns that the cops/judges would be pressured to really start handing out these penalties to generate revenue.

They could always make a racign league wiht the cars they capture, like how cops are goign around in cali and nevada givig them not traffic tickets, but free passes into a local drag strip to keep them off the road ( they only give em to ya if your not caught racing, theyll jsut come up to you adn write you a free pass if they suspect you might street race) but like they could use them in autocross, drag race, and road racing sanctioned events. Free cars, good race, and it wouldshow people that it would be alot more fun and safer to race on a track wiht a car liek that then on the streets. I know im gonna get flamed on this, but go ahead and make your points guys, its just my thought.

EVERYBODY that street races knows it's illegal, case closed. Now, I'm not saying I haven't done it because I'd be a liar. However I knew the consequences if I got caught. The fact is no matter what you do there will always be people that street race. How many times have we all laughed at the riced out cars wondering why they even bother running at the track with 18 second cars? It's better than the street right? Well some don't like getting made fun of at the track. There's no right or wrong answer, people are going to do what they want to do.

They crushed them to make a point/example. Sure they could have parted the cars out or whatever, but what does that do? It puts go fast parts in the hands of people who will do what with those parts? Street race. By crushing the cars, they are trying to scare the other street racers & send a message. Well worth the 30k hit they took by not parting out the cars.
As said above, the reason the police were allowed to crush the cars is because parts of the cars were stolen. From how the story reads, it sounds like most of the drivers were part of gangs anyway. Im sure the cops had good reasons to pick these 6 cars.
