that is because many of the cars they are put in are a bit heavy. 4th gens easily weigh 3500lbs, getting that rolling to freeway speed with only 200hp and not enough gear is going to leave your foot in the throttle a long time.
GP/GTP's are not much better, many of which curb at 3300+ and are stuck with much less efficiant drivetrains and commonly even less final drive gearing.

track weight with me in the car, no seats except drivers...3380. which means about 3230 without me...which isnt too bad i guess but yeah 3.8s suck for gas mileage

You really think you got a snowballs chance in hell against my car? It's got a V-TAK man, you just don't see that ***** anywhere man. Well, IDK, you know my cam's not cammin right, and I think my computer's got a virus. How much does your car weigh? Oh, oh, you are fu*ked man, power to weight ratio says, you're fu*ked.

And I don't doubt the drivers have a lot to do with the cars, I've kept up with a Vette in a Mustang GT and kept up with a Mustang Cobra in my Marauder, but if you take two drivers with similar levels of skill and put one behind the wheel of a Vette and another behind the wheel of said Mustang GT, i'd be willing to bet the Vette would come out ahead.

your right the two drivers with similar skills the vette would beat the gt, but it still comes down to the DRIVER not the car. i took my friends GTI into the 14s. his best 60ft was a 2.7, mine on that car was a 2.2 which aint bad for a 98? GTI VR6 M5, esp with ****** good year RSAs

I'm not saying that the driver is not important, but what you are saying, in essence, is that the potential of the car means absolutely nothing compared to the skill of the driver, you're just taking the car's abilities completely out of the situation and you can't really do that. I'm saying theres an interaction effect between the two, you are saying the only important factor is driver skill. If this is not what you're saying, I apologize, but that is certainly how it looks to me.

the car plays a part but how can a car be put to the limit with a weak(lack of a better term) driver? like that corvette, it was a mid to late 90s C5, it shoulda spanked me up the hill thru the corners but i actually was on his ass the whole way. but had there been a more skilled driver, i woulda gotten dusted.
