Time to fix what I broke.
Well the time has come for me to rebuild the rear in the camaro. My biggest dilemma right now is to decide between 3:73's and 4:10's. The car is an A4 and will be possibly getting a stall converter someday (If i keep the car) I dont really care about gas mileage and mostly want out of the hole performance. the car will MAYBE see some track time but not much. I need some input here. What RPM will I cruise at around 80 mph with either gear. The car has 3:23s now. Thanks
Jon

Assuming a 26" tall tire, 80 mph will probably be just over 2500 rpm. My old '87 SS had 3.73s with a 200-4R (slightly better OD gear than the 4L60E) and that's near what I ran.

my camaro has 4:10s, I cruise 75 mph at 3500 with a TH400 trans. Not a very good cruiser, I would love to have a 700 trans.. OD would kick butt

and jon...
with 4.10s:
3000rpms at 80
102mph at 5500rpms in third(1:1) gear!
you'll definately run out of gear at the track
with 3.73's:
2750rmps at 80
113mph at 5500rpms in third(1:1) gear
personally i think your happiest gears will be(if you get that 9") 3.90s:
2900rpms at 80
108mph in third(1:1) gear
hope this helps!

Depends on the horsepower level and tire height. The faster you go the lower the gear ratio you need so as not to over rev the motor. Example; with a 26" tall tire and 100mph trap speeds 3.73's would be perfect for the motor if redline was in the low 5000's. Trap at 120mph (nitrous) and you'll either be using overdrive, a taller tire, or chucking rods through the block!

Ill have the rear out, taken apart, cleaned, and painted so it can all go in and on the car once i get the stuff. Thanks for the help, Ill keep you updated on whats going on. Later!
