I dont see people dragging a Hummer. However I don't see much torque with an I5 either for towing. So I agree, why not the 5.3?

It needs more power to compete in that price range. Probably around 300hp would be pretty cool. Otherwise, the H3 looks good and will probably do well off-road but it needs more power!

Hummers were never ever known for its speed, but the I5 offers plenty of power to go off road. I will agree that the car needs a bigger engine, and we will see something more powerful in the near future, probably within a year. Its I-5 will be on the green side, and maybe thats what Hummer needs right now for an image booster. The other 355 twins (Colorado and Canyon) are best selling mid sized picks ups in the market right now, and they dont have the power of the gas guzzling Nissan and Toyota's.

Hummers are the biggest waste of perfectly good metal. They're huge, heavy, waste gas, are ugly and usually have the worst driver's(arrogant @?*#@*'s) behind the wheel. And in case you can't tell, I hate them. And don't get me started on Suburbans and Excursions!

the only true Hummer is the H1. no ifs, ands, or buts. the H2 and H3 are just dressed-up versions of other GM SUV's.

Do you hate them all or do you just hate the ones that aren't used to their ability? I know a family that has 7 children. She's got a mini-van but the suburban can hold 2 more people comfortably and their sports equipment in the back. My Dad has one because our family is 3 boys and we use it in the snow and every summer for camping.
What I don't like seeing is people driving pickup's all day long by themselves, or any other huge SUV. It's insane how wasteful they are but they are sometimes used as intended. The Excursion is a royal POS. It's just Ford's way of trying to steal some of the Suburban market. Also, get this, the dimensions of a Suburban vs a Trailblazer EXT is almost nothing! Infact I think the Suburban is shorter in height .

Why the F would they put an inline 5 into this new model? Even the jeep wranglers got inline 6's for how many years? I can't even understand why GM even bothered with the inline 5. Maybe if it came BEFORE the i6 but wtf, it didn't, and it sucks in comparison.

Drive an H1, and you will want one...one with twin .50 cal's sticking out the top, with a granade launcher on the side..
H2 is a good vehicle, just big and loud. Too bad too many soccer moms drive them.
H3 is just the right size. Its much more agressive then a ****ing Liberty...and it can actualy go off roading.
Ill take a H1 Alpha...mmmmm Duramax baby. 590lbs...suck that MB.

liberties can off-road just as well as any other mass produced 4 wheel drive vehicle. i chose my words very carefully. i don't consider the H1-3 a mass produced vehicle. just because most owners won't take them off-road doesn't mean they can't enjoy a really cool day of trail riding with the occasional rock-crawl.

stop referring to the H1 with guns and missles strapped to it. i get this weird, saturday morning cartoon image in my mind when you do that. the humvee, the predecessor to all of these caricatures, is the vehicle you want. still in use by the military, not legal for interstate travel, go anywhere, over anything, vehicles are what's in people's minds when they think about the dream-4-wheel-drive-vehicle. hell, some people even have dreams about them. although i'd never admit it.

another word about liberties: skyjacker has a bolt on lift kit for them, kenne bell has a bolt-in supercharger kit made for them, there are after-cat exhaust systems... most any product that can be bolted in or on a CJ can be bolted in or on a KJ. you're just a lot more comfortable sitting in leather seats jacked up, rolling on 35s with an extra 200 lb ft of torque strapped to the motor with a liberty.

now, if only i could talk my wife into some modifications...

The Hummvee is the same as an H1, they are produced on the same line together, only some get sent off to the paint shop, and some are tagged in olive drab. You can drive both on interstates and highways.
And once you have really taken a Hummer to a course where to you can test it, you wont ever see the true machine.

Battery cut-off switch. Keyless starter. Non adjustable seat backs. No cold AC. Windows didnt roll up and down - they fell down by pulling a pin. Throttle lock. Ballistic nylon doors that can be removed. Engine bay snorkle.

And absolutely no visibility.

Loved every Hummer I drove in the Army, especially on the tank trails at Dix before it became more active.

i checked into it - the humvee is not legal for street driving in the united states. the H1 had some modifications made to it to conform to NHTSA and DOT standards so it could be driven on the roads. the H2 and H3 are just further iterations on the basic theme, but on the suburban chasis (i think). not interested in the least.

i want the original. i saw one while in costa rica on the road and about pissed myself. i spoke with the owner, who happened to have friends in the US military, and he said he bought it surplus but had to provide paperwork that he was going to export it. i guess you could own one for rock-crawling competition, but it seems kind of silly to trailer an awesome vehicle like that, which is very well capable to traverse highways with no problems. in costa rica the roads change in a moment's notice. one minute you could be travelling on a nice paved blacktop, the next it's foot deep craters in dirt roads. not to mention the hills and mountain passes...

This is for civilian use you mean? Because I can't count the number of convoys I was in between Bristol, PA and Ft Bragg from 1995 - 1997. Hummers, Hemitts (8x8 monster), 5 ton cabs and dump trucks, and so on. The humvee was always there - every self important Lieutenant had to ride in one.

yep. the army uses tanks and other special vehicles on the highways, too, but that doesn't mean the general public can do it.
