Messed up the miata last night

was going to a local grocery store and the road leading to it was under construction(dug up the road to repave it) but they didnt have it blocked off with cones so figured it was at least semi safe...so im driving down the road & in the right hand side theres a manhole sticking up about 8inches out of the street so I decide to go around it rather then wrecking the car then notice directly ahead of me is one of those water things BAMMMM!! doing like 10 mph direct hit on my front crossmember...I thought I cracked the oil pan or something...anywayz my front suspension it all outta wack now...1/2 turn off via the steering wheel now lol everything looked ok from underneith & nothing broken but now the steering is all wacked...damn DOT least they couldve done is put up a "not for thru traffic" sign or something.

I used to scrape the TCI tranmission pan on the Pace Car when I pulled into the Glen Rock shopping center. I also had an incident where a big chunk of snow/ice fell off the truck in front of me and I wasn't even thinking about it. Luckily I was only doing 35 mph, but it was a direct hit on the trans pan. I thought for sure it would have cracked it, but it was fine.

I think he was referring to the fact that I probably could just talk to someone here about compensation. You gotta see the pics of how high this thing sticks up...they had cones on all but the two I was trying to avoid...saw the first didnt see the second

I know Bill, I was just busting on you a little bit. I can't talk until I get back in a rwd machine . The waiting is what hurts...

The damage doesn't look too bad.

yah it doenst "look" bad but i will say i have to turn the wheel 1/2 turn to the left for the wheels to be strait...nto sure if an alignment can fix that or if its something deeper...anyone care to comment on that?

I need more pictures to comment on that. It's not sounding good! Basically, if you hit something that isn't the wheel or a direct steering component and then the wheel is off, well that usually means there's some pretty substantial damage .

well i figured otu what it is...theres a metal strap thats partially welded to the kmember that holds in the steering rack that was partially bent...this in turn i guess slightly moved the rack one way...its messed up bad enough that i seriously doubt I could fix it without damaging it further. However it doesnt appear as if its condition will worsen at all so it is driveable...just a little weird in how the positioning is I've got a bunch of pics of everything though so we'll see how it plays out.
