Sounds like it could use a rebuild. That noise isn't good, especially if it gets louder.

Yea....does it do it in every gear, or just certain ones?

You might have overheated the fluid too. Try draining the tranny and refilling with some good quality ATF. It's cheaper than a rebuild, and easy enough to do. Might get you some more miles out of it.

royal purple makes a manual tranny fluid that is intended specifically for manuals that use ATF. little g uses the stuff and his tranny seems to like it

Anything that says ATF on the outside. If you need that extra 1/4 of a horsepower (if that), then go with the best, Royal Purple or Amsoil. Both are synthetic so be sure they are ATF!

If you want some ATF that's not going to break the bank, go to a Honda dealership and get their ATF. Good stuff, a lot of guys on CZ28 were raving about it a while back.

Does the sound change when you push in the clutch? Â*T/O bearing maybe? Â*

Service manual listed the following for noise ( from the trans, not the clutch):

Low or improper fluid.

Worn/damaged Speed-O gear

Worn/damaged bearings.

Improper bellhousing alignment or lose bellhousing.

As others mentioned, change the fluid ( 4 quarts ) and make sure all the bolts are tight.

I've used Redline ATF in my cars for years with no problem.
